RCON app: frequently asked questions

These are the questions people ask most about RCON, plus a few that are worth answering before setting it up on a server, limits included.

What is RCON?
RCON, remote console, is an admin channel plenty of game servers already ship with. You connect to a separate RCON port, prove you know the password, and from there you are typing the same commands you would type at the server console itself. This app is just a client for that channel, built for iPhone and iPad.
Why does my RCON connection fail?
Four usual suspects: RCON is not enabled on the server, you typed the game port instead of the RCON port, the password is wrong, or a firewall or router is in the way. Run Test Connection first, then check the port itself with Port Scanner. Filtered means something is dropping the traffic before it reaches the server at all.
What port should I use for RCON?
Whichever RCON port your server config says, not the port players join on. Pick the game under Server Type and the app fills in the usual one, 25575 for Minecraft, 28016 for Rust, but change it if your host uses something else.
Is my RCON password stored securely?
On the device only, inside the app's own storage, as plain text. Not the iOS Keychain, not encrypted. It only ever travels to the server you are connecting to, and it is still worth picking a password that lives nowhere else.
Is RCON traffic encrypted?
No, not as the games build it. Source RCON and WebSocket RCON both send the password and commands in the clear. Admin it over the open internet through a VPN into the server network instead, or keep the RCON port closed to anyone but trusted addresses.
Does the app work without internet?
No. Every tool opens a live connection to a server address, full stop. On your own home network, Wi-Fi alone covers it; hosted elsewhere, you need a real internet connection.
Why does the app ask for Local Network access?
Because iOS will not let an app touch devices on your own network without asking first, the game server on your home PC, the PC you want Wake-on-LAN to switch on. Decline it and local connections just fail, no error that explains why.
Can I manage several servers at once?
You can save a pile of servers, group and switch between them, but a command only ever goes to the one console you have open at that moment. Free keeps 2 saved servers; Premium takes that cap off entirely.
Can I see a list of online players?
Not on a dedicated screen, no. You get it the way the server hands it over: send the game's own player command, list on Minecraft, status on Rust, and read whatever comes back in the console.
Do Scheduled Commands run while my phone is locked?
No, a scheduled command only fires with that server's console open and connected right in front of you. For anything round-the-clock, you want a scheduler running on the server side instead.
Does SSH support key-based login?
No, and this one catches people out because the form shows a Public Key option. Choose it and the app still logs in with username and password underneath. A server set to keys-only will refuse this app outright.
Can I upload files with the FTP client?
No. It browses, creates folders, renames, deletes, and pulls a text file onto the clipboard with Download & Copy, but nothing travels the other way, and it does not speak SFTP or FTPS either.
How do I move my servers to a new iPhone?
Settings, then Server Management, then Export Server Configurations to save a JSON file. On the new phone, Import Server Configurations and pick Merge or Overwrite. Passwords do not ride along in that file, so you will type them in again.
Does the app sync through iCloud?
No, nothing syncs anywhere between devices. That export file is the only bridge between one iPhone or iPad and another.
What do I get with Premium?
No cap on servers, aliases, bookmarks or macros, Scheduled Commands, 8 extra console themes with font options, and no ads. Every connection tool was already free before any of that.
Can I get one more server slot without paying?
Yes, hit the free limit and the server form offers a rewarded ad. Watch it and a third slot opens up for 24 hours.
Is RCON made by the game studios?
No. It is an independent app from MasaApps360, built on the RCON protocols the games themselves document for server owners, with no affiliation to any studio.
Can it install mods or update my server?
Not on its own. It is a client for RCON, SSH and FTP, not a hosting panel, so you can run your own update script through SSH or tweak a config you grabbed over FTP, but the actual install and update work stays yours to do.
