Does WeldMaster work offline?
The calculators, reference charts and saved setups work with no signal, because all the math and tables are inside the app. It is not fully offline, though: the free version loads ads over the internet, and buying or restoring Pro goes through the App Store. Once Pro is bought, the phone remembers it, so Pro stays active without a connection.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no login and no sign-up. Your unit choice and saved setups are stored on the iPhone and nothing is uploaded.
Which welding processes does it cover?
MIG (GMAW), flux-core (FCAW), stick (SMAW) and TIG (GTAW), each with the gas and polarity that go with it. Only MIG is free; flux-core, stick and TIG are Pro. The short-circuit or spray transfer choice is given for MIG only.
Is it tied to a machine brand?
No. The app is brand-agnostic: it gives amperage, voltage, wire feed and gas flow, not the dial or tap position for a named welder. Once you find what works on your machine, you can save it in My Setups with Pro.
Are the settings exact?
No, and the app says so on every result: Starting point — tune to your machine. They come from rules of thumb and fixed rod tables. Your machine, wire, joint, position and even cable length move the right setting, so run a test piece and adjust.
Does it replace the WPS?
No. If you weld to a procedure, the WPS wins, and so do code requirements and the consumable maker's data. WeldMaster is for getting close fast when you have no procedure in front of you.
What is free and what does Pro add?
Free: the MIG calculator for mild steel, stainless and aluminum, the gauge chart, the unit setting and three defect guides (porosity, spatter, burn-through), with ads. WeldMaster Pro adds flux-core, stick, TIG, heat input, preheat / carbon equivalent, the electrode chart, the filler selector, the other 11 defect guides and My Setups, and removes the ads.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. It is a one-time purchase that stays yours. The price is shown by the App Store in your country before you pay.
How do I get Pro back on a new iPhone?
Install WeldMaster, open Settings or the upgrade screen and tap Restore Purchases while signed in with the same Apple account. Saved setups do not move across, because they are stored only on the old phone.
Why does the app ask to track me?
That is the standard iOS tracking question, and it is only there for the ads in the free version. If you say no, everything still works and the ads are non-personalized. The app asks for no other permission: no camera, location, microphone or photos.
Why is the MIG amperage so high on thick plate?
The MIG calculator uses about 1 amp per thousandth of an inch for a single pass. From 3/8" up that gives more current than most machines can deliver, for example 338 – 413 A on 3/8" mild steel. Weld heavy plate in several passes, following your procedure.
Can I type the thickness in millimetres?
Not directly. Thickness is set with a slider, a fine stepper or preset buttons, and the readout shows the fraction, the decimal inch and the millimetres side by side. With Metric on, the results are converted; wire, rod and tungsten sizes stay in inch fractions.
Which stick rods are in the app?
Six: E6010, E6011, E6013, E7014, E7018 and E7024, with their amperage window per diameter, polarity, positions and a usage note. Other classifications are not covered.
Can I save the settings that worked?
Yes, with Pro. The Save button on the MIG, flux-core, stick and TIG screens stores a name, the machine, amps, volts, wire feed and notes in My Setups, which you can search. There is no export or sync, and deleting the app deletes them.
Does the gauge chart work for aluminum and stainless?
No. It lists sheet steel gauges from 30 ga to 3 ga plus plate fractions from 1/8" to 1", in inches and millimetres. Stainless and aluminum gauges have different thicknesses, and the chart says so.
Does the preheat result meet a welding code?
No. It is a screening estimate from the IIW carbon equivalent with four temperature bands and a step up for sections over 1". It ignores hydrogen level, restraint and heat input, so the preheat in your WPS or code always comes first.
Does the heat input include an efficiency factor?
No. It shows arc energy: volts × amps × 60 ÷ (1000 × travel speed). Some codes multiply that by a process efficiency factor, so check what your WPS asks for before you compare numbers.
Does it work on iPad or Apple Watch?
No. WeldMaster is built for iPhone in portrait. There is no iPad layout, Apple Watch, Mac or Android version.
