How to make a light-up concert sign on your phone
Open the Concert Sign template in LED Banner, change the Message to your own two or three words and tap Full Screen. You get a glowing, LED-style sign on your phone that shows up in a dark venue, with no poster board to carry.
Why a phone sign works in a dark venue
Paper signs vanish once the lights go down. A screen at full brightness does the opposite: the darker the room, the more it stands out. A cardboard sign disappears the moment the house lights cut at a show, while a phone screen keeps glowing right through the opener. A phone also folds into your pocket, which matters at venues strict about what you carry in.
Be realistic about size, though. A phone is small, and even an iPad will not compete with a big poster at stadium distance. It works for people nearby, the front rows and the camera close to the stage.
Make your concert sign, step by step
- On the Create tab, open Templates and choose Concert Sign. It creates a banner that reads CONCERT in Retro LED orange on Classic LED dots, scrolling at 100 pt per second with the Pulse effect.
- Tap Text and type your own words in Message. Raise Size and pick Black under Weight for the thickest letters.
- In Color, keep Retro LED or try Neon, Rainbow or Matrix, on the Pure Black background.
- In LED, keep Classic for the LED board look. Raise Glow a little for a softer halo around each dot.
- In Motion, set Loop to None for one or two words, or keep Loop and lower Speed for a longer line.
- Tap Full Screen, turn the phone sideways and hold it up when the moment comes.
How big will the words be?
For a still sign, the text is centered and whatever is wider than the screen gets cut off. On a 6.1-inch iPhone in landscape (852 pt wide), the word CONCERT in the System font at Size 120 is about 544 pt wide. Text width grows in proportion to Size, which gives these approximate margins:
| Size | Text width | Space left and right |
|---|---|---|
| 120 pt | 544 pt | 154 pt each side |
| 150 pt | 680 pt | 86 pt each side |
| 180 pt | 816 pt | 18 pt each side |
| 200 pt | 907 pt | does not fit, ends cut off |
So a seven-letter word fills an iPhone at around Size 180. For longer words, either lower Size or let the text scroll.
Concert sign ideas that read from a distance
- One short line: a name, a song title, a city, or a simple request in two or three words.
- Big and heavy beats clever and small. Every extra word shrinks the letters or makes people wait for it to scroll by.
- Bright color on black. Retro LED, Gold and Neon stand out most in the dark.
- Motion that helps: Pulse gently fades the text in and out every 3.14 seconds, and Wave bobs it up and down. Both are free.
- Stronger effects such as Blink and Flash, the Glow LED style and up or down scrolling are part of LED Banner Pro.
Can you bring signs to concerts?
That depends on the venue and the event, and rules differ a lot, so check the event page before you go. A phone sign avoids the size limits some venues set for posters, but it is still a sign: hold it at chest or face height rather than high over your head, and put it down when it blocks the view of the people behind you.
