Custom Wi-Fi QR code design: colours, shapes and a centre icon

In WiFi QR, the look of an exported code lives in a template: Settings, Export Templates, Create Template, then colours, layout, subtitle and size. Rounded or dot shapes and a centre icon need Premium. That centre icon, by the way, is a system symbol — not your own logo image, however much people search for one.

The free plan gives you one custom template. Premium lifts that cap entirely and throws in the Premium Gallery — 10 ready-made designs like Café, Hotel, Dark Elegance and Neon Vibes — which you can use straight or just as a starting point for your own.

How to design your own Wi-Fi QR code in the app

  1. Open Settings and, under Templates & Tools, tap Export Templates, then Create Template.
  2. In Template Info, name the template and write a subtitle — "Scan to connect" works fine for most cases.
  3. Choose an Icon and a Layout Style.
  4. In QR Code Style, pick the QR Style and Corner Style (Premium) and, if you like, a Center Logo.
  5. In Print Style, set the QR Code Color, Background Color and Text Color.
  6. In Display Options, pick which lines show and whether to Show QR Border. Set the QR Code Size.
  7. Save it. Open a network in History and tap Export with Template to use it.

Can I add a logo to a Wi-Fi QR code?

A lot of sites promise logo upload for a Wi-Fi QR code generator. This one doesn't do that — its Center Logo is an Apple system icon, picked by its SF Symbol name (a cup, a bed, a Wi-Fi symbol, that sort of thing), with an optional white circle behind it and a Logo size from 15% to 28% of the code. If your brand logo matters to you, print it on the card around the code instead of inside it.

Covering the middle works at all because QR codes carry spare data purely for error correction. Add an icon and the app automatically bumps to the highest level, H, which can recover roughly 30% of the code. Here's exactly how much the icon and its circle cover on a 300-point code:

Centre icon coverage on a 300 pt code
Logo sizeIcon boxWhite circle diameterShare of the code covered by the circle
15%45 pt58.5 pt2.99%
20% (default)60 pt78 pt5.31%
28% (maximum)84 pt109.2 pt10.41%

Even the maximum stays well inside what error correction can fix on its own, but stack a heavy style (dots or diamonds) with a big icon and low contrast and it adds up fast. Test before you print, not after.

Wi-Fi QR code design ideas that still scan

  • Contrast first, always: a dark code on a light background. Navy on cream or black on white scans far better than pastel on white ever will.
  • Don't invert it. A light code on a dark background trips up a surprising number of scanners, even when it looks striking on screen.
  • Rounded modules with square corners are the gentlest change you can make; Dots with Leaf corners is about as bold as it gets.
  • Poster suits a wall; Card or Minimal suits a table.
  • Keep the subtitle short and actually useful — "Scan to connect" or just the network name.
  • Test with two phones, an iPhone and an Android, from the distance people will really stand.

Questions and answers

Can I upload my company logo to the QR code?
No. The Center Logo is a system icon chosen by name, nothing else. Put your actual logo on the printed card around the code instead.
Do custom colours make a Wi-Fi QR code harder to scan?
They can, the moment contrast drops. Keep the code dark and the background light, and test-scan it before you print a stack of them.
Can I design my own Wi-Fi QR code for free?
Yes, one template's worth: layout, colours, icon, subtitle and size are all free. Module and corner shapes, the centre icon and extra templates need Premium.
Does a styled code contain anything different?
No, nothing. The shape and colours only change how it looks. What's actually inside is the same network name, password and security text either way.
