How much does vaping cost per day? Work out your price per puff

Divide the e-liquid price by the puffs in the bottle (bottle mL × puffs per mL) to get the price per puff, then multiply by your puffs per day. At 20.00 for 10 mL and 120 puffs per mL, a puff costs about 0.0167, so 100 puffs a day is 1.67 a day and 50.00 a month.

Why vaping cost is hard to see

You buy e-liquid by the bottle or disposables by the unit, but you use it by the puff. Without a count, the only thing you notice is how often you buy a new one.

The formula

Puffs per bottle = bottle size in mL × puffs per mL. Price per puff = e-liquid price ÷ puffs per bottle. Cost per day = puffs per day × price per puff.

How do you find your puffs per mL?

This is the one number you have to estimate, and it's easy to get wrong the first time — a guess that's off will need fixing a bottle later. The app's own tip says most devices average 80 to 150. To measure yours: count your puffs (the app does this part) until you've used up a known amount of liquid, then divide puffs by mL. A 10 mL bottle that lasted 1,200 logged puffs gives you 120.

For a disposable, enter the device price as E-Liquid Price and its liquid content as Bottle Size. The cost of the hardware itself (a refillable device, coils, pods) is not part of the per-puff price.

Set it up in the app

  1. In Settings, Tracking Mode, choose Vape (or Both if you also smoke).
  2. Open Cost Settings, then Vape Costs.
  3. Enter E-Liquid Price, Bottle Size and Puffs Per mL (10 to 500, in steps of 10).
  4. Read the Cost Preview: Per Puff, Daily (100 puffs) and Monthly (100/day).
  5. Log your puffs with +1; the Today card shows what they cost as spent today.

How much does vaping cost per day, week and month?

With the app's default settings, 25.00 for 30 mL at 100 puffs per mL (3,000 puffs per bottle), a puff costs about 0.0083. The preview shows Per Puff as $0.01, Daily (100 puffs) as $0.83 and Monthly (100/day) as $25.00. The per-puff price is rounded on screen only; the totals use the exact value.

How much does vaping cost compared to cigarettes?

Compare daily costs from your own prices. Using Example A, 100 puffs a day costs 1.67 a day. Ten cigarettes at 12.00 per pack of 20 cost 6.00 a day. Your numbers will differ, which is the point of entering your own.

If you do both, choose Both as the tracking mode. Each type has its own price and count, and Stats shows the cost of each separately.

Where people get this wrong

  • Re-check Puffs Per mL after your first bottle. A wrong guess here changes every cost figure in the same proportion.
  • Enter the price you actually pay, including multi-buy discounts.
  • The monthly figures in the preview assume 100 puffs a day. For your own projection, log for a week and read Weekly, Monthly and Yearly in the Cost section of Stats.

Questions and answers

Why does the app show 0.01 per puff when my maths gives 0.0083?
Prices are displayed with two decimals, so 0.0083 appears as 0.01. The daily and monthly totals are calculated with the exact value, which is why 100 puffs show as 0.83, not 1.00.
Can the app track how much e-liquid I use?
No. It counts puffs and estimates cost from your puffs per mL. It does not track mL used or nicotine strength.
Is vaping cheaper than smoking?
It depends on your prices and habits. Enter both in Both mode and compare the cost figures in Stats, based on what you actually logged.
