GhostScope questions, answered straight

I get a lot of the same messages about GhostScope, so here they are, answered straight, including the spots where the app falls short. Skip to whichever one you came for.

Does it actually detect ghosts?
No. GhostScope reads sensors your iPhone already has, the magnetometer, the motion sensors and the microphone, and shows what they pick up. The Pendulum uses the device's tilt, and the Spirit Radar's blip positions are random decoration rather than a reading. The app is built for entertainment and says so on its screens.
Is the EMF meter real?
Yes. The figure comes from the phone's magnetometer, the same sensor the compass uses, sampled 20 times a second and shown in microtesla, or in milligauss if you switch Units in Settings (1 µT = 10 mG). A handheld ghost-hunting meter reads AC fields from wiring, so the two will not agree. Magnets, speakers, steel and laptops all move this one.
Does it need internet or an account?
There is no account and no sign-up, and your readings, hunts and recordings stay on the device. The meter, recorder, radar, pendulum and log all work offline. The free version does use the internet to load Google ads, and purchases go through the App Store.
What is free and what does Pro add?
The EMF meter, Spirit Radar, Pendulum and Hunt Log are free, along with one EVP recording per day and one more for each optional ad you watch. Pro adds unlimited EVP recordings, a sensitivity boost above ×1.4 and .m4a export of your recordings, and removes the ads.
Why does the radar show something in an empty room?
Because the blips are a visual effect. Every 1.8 seconds the radar may place a blip at a random spot: a faint one about one time in three even with no hunt running, and a bright one with a vibration whenever a hunt is running and the reading is above 40 µT. Where a blip appears means nothing, and the screen says the blips are not a detection of anything.
Can I keep the EVP recordings?
Only by exporting them. The Hunt Log stores EMF hunts with duration, peak and events, and an EVP appears there only as an EVP Recording event, without the audio and without any location. To keep the sound, use Export recording (m4a), a Pro feature, before you leave the EVP screen.
Why does the meter read about 40 to 50 µT with nothing nearby?
That is mostly the Earth's own magnetic field, which the phone always feels, plus whatever steel and electronics are around. My kitchen sits at 44 µT with nothing near the phone, just from the fridge and the building's wiring. Tap Calibrate while holding the phone still and that reading becomes zero; from then on the meter shows only changes.
Will its readings match my handheld EMF meter?
No. Dedicated ghost-hunting meters usually read the alternating fields around mains wiring in milligauss, while a phone magnetometer mainly sees static and slowly changing fields such as magnets and steel. You can display mG to use the same unit, but expect different numbers.
Does the EMF meter measure Wi-Fi, 5G or radiation?
No. It measures magnetic field strength only. It does not see electric fields or radio signals, and it is not a tool for judging EMF exposure or health risk.
How does the Pendulum decide YES or NO?
From your hand. For 8 seconds the app reads how the device is tilted; if the right edge ends up more than about 20° down it answers YES, the left edge NO, and anything closer to level, including lying flat on a table, MAYBE.
Why can't I record another EVP today?
Free users get one EVP recording per calendar day. Use it, and the screen offers Watch ad — get 1 extra session, which gives you one more. Pro removes the limit entirely. The count resets the next day.
Why does it ask for the microphone?
Only to record EVP, the first time you tap record. The EMF meter, radar and pendulum never use it. If you said no, the recorder shows a message asking you to enable microphone access in iOS Settings.
Does GhostScope track my location or take photos?
No. It asks for no location permission, has no map and no camera feature, and hunts have no place attached. If you want to remember where a hunt happened, note it yourself.
Why wasn't my hunt saved?
Only End & Save Session on the EMF Meter screen saves a hunt. The Stop button on the Live EMF card on the home screen ends a hunt without saving it.
How many hunts does the Hunt Log keep?
The last 100 saved hunts, newest first, for free and Pro users alike. There is no export or cloud sync of the log; it lives on the device and in your normal device backup.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes, GhostScope is a universal app for iPhone and iPad with iOS 17.4 or later. Most iPads have a magnetometer; if yours does not, the meter says there is nothing to measure instead of showing a number.
Why do some words in the log stay in English?
The hunt name, which is always Hunt, and the notes Auto-detected, Marked and Recorded are stored in English when they are created, so they show that way in every language. Everything else on screen follows your language.
Is there a spirit box or word generator?
No. GhostScope has an EMF meter, an EVP recorder, the Spirit Radar, the Pendulum and the Hunt Log, and nothing that generates words or scans radio.
