Yes or no pendulum on your phone: how the answer is made
GhostScope's Pendulum answers from how you hold the phone. Type a question, tap Ask the Pendulum and hold the device for 8 seconds: right edge down more than about 20° gives YES, left edge down gives NO, and anything closer to level gives MAYBE.
How to ask the pendulum a yes or no question
- Open GhostScope and tap the Pendulum tile (subtitle Yes / No answers).
- Type your question in Ask a yes/no question…. This is optional and free; it does not change the answer.
- Tap Ask the Pendulum.
- Hold the phone in front of you for 8 seconds and watch the pendulum swing between NO on the left and YES on the right.
- Read the answer: YES, NO or MAYBE. Tap Cancel at any time to stop early.
If a hunt is running on the EMF Meter, your question is saved in that hunt's log as a Pendulum event.
How the pendulum decides
The app reads the device's gravity sensor 30 times a second and works out how far it is tilted sideways. It smooths that angle, so the pendulum drifts rather than jumps, and after 8 seconds it looks at where the smoothed angle ended.
- More than about 20° (0.35 radians) with the right edge down: YES.
- More than about 20° with the left edge down: NO.
- Anything in between, or the phone lying flat: MAYBE.
The smoothing catches up with a new tilt quickly: it covers 95% of a change in 19 readings, about 0.63 seconds. In practice the answer reflects how you held the phone in roughly the last half-second.
| How the phone is held at the end | Tilt | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Right edge clearly lower | 30.0° right | YES |
| Slight lean to the left | 11.5° left | MAYBE |
| Left edge clearly lower | 24.8° left | NO |
| Lying flat on a table | 0° | MAYBE |
The screen says it too: Entertainment only — the answer comes from how the device tilts in your hand.
How do pendulums work, and why do they seem to move on their own?
With a real pendulum on a chain, the usual explanation is the ideomotor effect, tiny movements of your hand that you make without noticing, often following what you expect or hope. The swing feels like it comes from outside. It starts in your fingers. Even holding deliberately level, a slow drift toward a soft YES or NO within a few seconds is common.
GhostScope's version makes that visible. There is no hidden source of answers: the only input is the angle of the device in your hand. Hold it perfectly level and it will always say MAYBE.
Is a pendulum accurate?
As a way to predict or decide anything, no. Use the Pendulum for fun: as a party game, an icebreaker during a hunt, or to show friends how easily a hand can lead an answer. Do not use it for health, money, relationships or any real decision.
