How to ghost hunt with your phone, from start to log
For a phone-only ghost hunt, open GhostScope's EMF Meter, tap Start Hunt and Calibrate, walk slowly, tap Mark when something happens, record EVP while the hunt runs, then tap End & Save Session and review everything in the Hunt Log.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad with GhostScope installed.
- A quiet place: your home, a friend's house, a sleepover, Halloween night.
- A notebook or notes app for where you are, because the app does not record locations.
- A light, and ideally someone with you.
That is enough for a beginner. Treat it as a game with a method. You are looking for changes you can repeat and explain, and enjoying the ones you cannot. A first hunt at home often turns out to be more about identifying everyday noises, like a washing machine's motor two rooms over, than anything paranormal.
How to ghost hunt at home, step by step
- Take off magnetic cases and MagSafe accessories. Open GhostScope and tap EMF Meter.
- Tap Start Hunt. This clears the previous readings, events and peak, and starts a new session.
- Stand still in your starting room and tap Calibrate, so the background reads 0.0.
- Walk slowly with the phone held the same way. Watch the LEDs and the graph of the last 6 seconds.
- Any reading at or above the spike threshold (80 µT unless you changed it) is logged automatically as an EMF Spike, with a vibration.
- Heard a noise, felt a chill, saw something? Tap Mark. It saves a Note event with the current reading.
- Want to ask questions? Go back, open EVP Recorder, record a session, and return. With the hunt still running, it is logged as an EVP Recording event.
- Try the Pendulum too if you like; the question you type is logged as a Pendulum event.
- Back on the EMF Meter, tap End & Save Session.
Reviewing your ghost hunting log
Open Hunt Log from the home screen. Each hunt shows its date, peak in µT and duration. Tap one to open Hunt Detail: the Summary lists Name, Started, Duration, Peak EMF and Samples, and below it every event with its time, note and the µT reading at that moment.
| Item | Shown |
|---|---|
| Name | Hunt |
| Duration | 12m 34s |
| Peak EMF | 83 µT |
| Event | EMF Spike, Auto-detected, 83 µT |
| Event | Note, Marked, with the reading at that moment |
| Event | EVP Recording, Recorded |
Every hunt is called Hunt and has no place attached, so write down where each one happened. Swipe left on a hunt to delete it, or use the trash button, which asks Delete all hunts? before Delete all. The log keeps your last 100 hunts.
How to use an EMF meter for ghost hunting without fooling yourself
- Calibrate in every new room, with the phone still.
- When the meter jumps, stop and repeat the movement. If it jumps at the same spot every time, look for a magnet, speaker, radiator or steel frame.
- Do not rotate the phone while walking; rotation alone moves the reading.
- Keep the Sensitivity boost at ×1.0 for your first hunts; higher boosts make every small change look dramatic.
- Remember the Spirit Radar is decoration: its blips land at random spots.
How to ghost hunt safely
Hunt in places you are allowed to be. Abandoned buildings, cemeteries at night and private land can mean trespassing, weak floors and no phone signal. Go with other people, tell someone where you are, carry a light, and leave if anyone feels unwell or unsafe.
