How to take a silent photo on iPhone with no shutter sound
In LiDAR Camera, open Settings and turn on Silent Operation under Stealth Mode. One switch kills the shutter and record sounds, the haptic tap and the white capture flash, and dims the screen so you're less visible in the dark. PRO feature, free for everyone during the first 7 days.
Can you turn off the camera shutter sound on iPhone?
Apple's own Camera app plays a shutter sound with no setting to mute it; it ignores the mute switch on purpose. A third-party app isn't tied to that sound. LiDAR Camera's Camera Sounds setting is off by default, and Stealth Mode goes further, turning off haptics and the white capture flash too.
This is different from the region lock some countries apply at the operating system level, such as Japan and South Korea, where iOS itself forces an audible shutter click in every camera app as an anti-voyeurism rule. No app, including this one, can remove that specific system sound.
Turn on Stealth Mode
- Open LiDAR Camera and tap the gear icon at the top left for Settings.
- Tap Stealth Mode.
- Turn on Silent Operation.
- Go back to the camera. The next shutter press, video start and stop make no sound and no haptic tap.
What Stealth Mode changes
| Setting off | Setting on |
|---|---|
| Shutter and record sounds play (unless already muted in Camera Sounds) | No shutter, record or beep sounds |
| Haptic tap on capture | No haptic tap |
| White flash fills the screen on capture | No white flash |
| Screen at your chosen brightness | Screen brightness drops to its minimum |
| Viewfinder at normal brightness | Viewfinder is dimmed |
Turning Silent Operation back off restores your screen brightness. The dim screen matters on its own, separate from the quiet: a bright phone in a dark room lights up your own face and ruins the night vision you already had.
What it can't do
- Override the shutter sound iOS itself forces in some regions. That sound is a system-level rule Apple applies to every camera app there, not something LiDAR Camera adds.
- Silence haptics or sounds from other apps or the phone's own system alerts.
- Hide the fact you are using the camera; the screen still lights up, just dimmer.
