Who touched my phone? Catch them with an intruder selfie on iPhone

Every trigger lands in the Intruder Log with a time and a reason, that part is free. Pay for Pro and it also takes a silent front-camera photo the instant the siren starts, so you actually see who picked the phone up. I tried it on a friend who grabbed my phone off the couch, and the photo it caught was unflattering but unmistakably him.

What an intruder selfie is

An intruder selfie is a photo the front camera takes when someone sets off a phone's protection. In Don't Touch it fires right after the alarm does, with no preview on screen. The person holding the phone sees the siren screen, nothing that looks like a camera.

Free vs. Pro: what you get

Intruder features by plan
FreePro
Entry per trigger with time and reasonYesYes
Front-camera photo of the personNoYes
Events kept in the logLast 3Unlimited
"Alarm triggered" notificationYesYes

On the free plan, a fourth event bumps the oldest one out automatically, so the log always holds the 3 most recent. Enough to see what happened on one outing. Not a history you'd want to dig through a week later.

How to set up the intruder photo

  1. Tap Upgrade to Pro in Settings; Restore Purchases, just below it, brings back an earlier purchase.
  2. Tap ARM. The first time, iOS asks for camera access: allow it.
  3. Put the phone down screen up, so the front camera faces whoever lifts it.
  4. When you are back, disarm with your PIN and open the Intruder Log from the list icon at the top left of the home screen.
  5. Each event shows the time, the reason (such as "Phone was moved") and, with Pro, the photo.

Why it asks for the camera before anything happens

iOS shows a permission prompt the first time an app uses the camera. Ask for that at the moment the alarm goes off and the person holding your phone is the one tapping Allow or Don't Allow, which defeats the whole point. So the app asks when you arm instead, while it's still your thumb on the screen. Decline it and the alarm still works, just without a photo.

Is a who touched my phone app safe?

Here is what Don't Touch does with the data:

  • Photos and the log are saved in the app's own storage on your phone. There is no account, no cloud upload and no sync.
  • The camera is used only at the moment the alarm triggers, and only for Pro users who allowed it.
  • Clear Intruder Log in Settings deletes every entry and its stored photos after a confirmation.
  • The internet is used only for ads in the free version and for App Store purchases.

Limits

  • No photo if the app was not open and armed on screen when the phone was touched.
  • The photo shows whoever is in front of the screen; someone grabbing the phone from behind may not be in frame.
  • It cannot track the phone afterwards; keep Find My on.

Questions and answers

Is there a who touched my phone app for iPhone?
Don't Touch does this: the free version logs the time and reason of each trigger, and Pro adds a front-camera photo of the person.
Is the intruder photo free?
No, it is part of Pro. Free users keep the siren, the notification and the last 3 log entries, without photos.
Does the person see the camera?
No preview is shown. The capture is silent and happens right after the siren starts.
Where are the photos stored?
Only on your phone, inside the app. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing the log deletes the photos too.
