How to do a raffle with tickets and draw the winning numbers on your phone
Number the tickets from 1, and when it is time to draw, open Bingo in Random, type the number of tickets sold next to Max numbers: and tap Generate once per prize. Each ticket can win only once, the board shows the order of the winners, and a screen recording is your proof. For a single prize, the number generator on the Home tab with Min and Max is enough.
Before the draw: sell tickets you can number
A fair raffle starts with the tickets, not the app. Use a double ticket roll or a book of stubs: the buyer keeps one half, you keep the other, both carrying the same number. Write the buyer's name and phone on your half.
- Number the tickets from 1 upwards with no gaps. This lets you use the no-repeat method below directly.
- Keep a note of the last ticket sold. If you sold 250, the draw runs from 1 to 250.
- Decide the prizes and their order, from the smallest to the main prize or the other way round, and announce it before the draw.
Method 1: one prize, one number
- Open Random. The number generator is at the top of the Home tab.
- Type the first ticket number in Min and the last one sold in Max, for example 1 and 250.
- Start a screen recording, show the range to the audience, and tap Generate.
- Read out the number. The holder of that ticket wins.
With 250 tickets, each one has a 0.4% chance. This method also works for tickets that do not start at 1, such as 501 to 750.
Method 2: several prizes with no repeats
If you tap Generate in the number generator for each prize, the same ticket can come up twice. Instead, use the bingo drum, which removes each number once it is drawn.
- On the Home tab, open Bingo.
- Type the number of tickets sold next to Max numbers: , for example 250. Do this before the first draw.
- Start a screen recording and show the counter reading 0 / 250.
- Tap Generate once for the first prize and read out the number.
- Tap Generate again for each remaining prize.
- At the end, the board under the ball lists the winning numbers in the order they were drawn. Take a screenshot of it.
A worked example
Say a school sells 250 tickets for three prizes. Everyone's ticket starts with the same chance on each draw, and because winners are removed, a ticket that has already won cannot win again.
| Draw | Tickets still in the drum | Chance for each remaining ticket | Counter after the draw |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | 250 | 0.4% | 1 / 250 |
| 2nd | 249 | 0.402% | 2 / 250 |
| 3rd | 248 | 0.403% | 3 / 250 |
Over the whole draw, any single ticket has a 1.2% chance of winning one of the three prizes.
How to show the raffle drawing was fair
- Record the screen with the iOS Screen Recording control from the start, so viewers see the range or ticket count before the first tap.
- Draw live, in front of people or on a stream, and read each number aloud as it appears.
- Keep the video and the screenshot of the board. The app keeps no history, and a new game or a new draw erases what was on screen.
- Publish the winning numbers, not the winners' contact details.
The app cannot pick winners from social network comments. For an online giveaway, give each entrant a number in the order they entered, then draw with the same method.
