Spirit Box app: frequently asked questions

No, and it never claims to. Every letter, word and number is generated at random on your phone. The Settings footer says so outright — results come from randomization algorithms — and the Ouija Board screen is labelled entertainment only. What a session means to you after that is entirely your own call.

A hardware spirit box sweeps radio stations and you listen for words in the noise. This app does not tune a radio. Its word modes pick random words from a list and speak them, and its Ghost Box plays synthesized sound fragments, so any word you hear in them is your own perception.

No. In Sound Analysis a loud peak makes a word appear, and in Energy ITC stronger or sudden magnetic readings make words more likely and more frequent. The word itself is always drawn at random from a list.

There is a free tier with ads: Letters, Words, Numbers ITC, Sound Analysis and Ouija, 3 sessions a day of up to 3 minutes each. PRO is the paid upgrade — no ads, and it switches on the sensor, audio and camera modules.

It can be either. PRO is offered as weekly, monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscriptions and as a one-time Lifetime purchase that never renews. Prices and any trial are shown on the purchase screen, since they vary by country.

Open Settings with the gear icon on the home screen. While PRO is active you will see the next charge date and a Manage Subscription button, which opens Apple's subscription sheet where you can cancel. You can also cancel from your Apple ID subscriptions in the iOS Settings app.

No for the sessions themselves: every mode, the journal and the history run on the device. Ads and buying or loading the PRO plans do need a connection; offline, the purchase screen shows Plans couldn't be loaded.

No. There is no login or sign-up. Purchases use your Apple ID.

It works on any iPhone or iPad with iOS 16.4 or later. LiDAR Scan only appears on devices with a LiDAR Scanner. EVP-style recording lives in Ghost Box, which is a PRO module you can also try once after watching an ad.

Yes, inside Ghost Box: start it, tap the record button, add bookmarks while recording, then play back and share the audio file from Recordings. Sound Analysis listens to the sound level but does not keep any audio.

No. It shows the phone's built-in magnetometer, total reading, in microtesla, smoothed over the last few readings. Earth's own field already gives a few dozen µT indoors before anything else happens, and magnets, metal and speakers push the number around from there. It is not calibrated, and it cannot read the alternating fields that come off house wiring.

A figure between 8% and 96%, built from the session's length, how many outputs you got and how fast, sound peaks, repeated words, and words that showed up in earlier sessions too. Run a longer, busier session and the score climbs, which tells you more about the session than about anything in the room. It is useful for comparing sessions against each other, never as evidence of anything.

Free sessions last up to 3 minutes and end automatically. Once per session you can tap Watch Ad for +2 min to reach 5 minutes. PRO sessions run up to 20 minutes.

The home screen shows No sessions remaining and offers Earn a Bonus Session through a short video, or PRO for unlimited sessions. The free count resets at local midnight.

No. History, journal entries and Ghost Box recordings are stored only on the device, and deleting the app deletes them. To keep a copy, share sessions as images or text, or export PDFs with PRO.

The camera is used only by Camera ITC and LiDAR Scan. Photo access is add-only: it lets the app save Camera ITC videos and share images to your library without reading your existing photos.

Not at the moment. Voice Preset in Settings stores your choice, but sessions currently speak with the system voice for your device language at a fixed rate and pitch.

The interface is available in 33 languages. The word list follows your device language and covers 50 languages, falling back to English when yours is missing.
