Ouija board app for iPhone: how it works, and is it real?
Spirit Box ships a free Ouija board. Tap Ouija, then Start Session, and the planchette spells a random 3 to 7 letter word, one letter every 0.75 seconds, then speaks it. The letters are random and the screen owns up to it: Interpretative letter generation · Entertainment only.
Is an Ouija board app real or fake?
Fake, by any honest reading, though not in a sneaky way. Nothing outside your phone moves the planchette; it is a random string of letters A to Z, animated across the board, no hidden sensor and no connection involved. Any app claiming to actually talk to someone through this is worth being skeptical of. This one is a board to play with and get a reaction out of a group, and it is upfront about that.
How to start an Ouija session
- On the home screen, tap the Ouija card.
- Tap Start Session. The Ouija Board screen shows YES, NO, GOODBYE, the alphabet in two arcs and the numbers 0 to 9.
- Ask a question. The planchette moves to each letter of the next word, with a light vibration on each one.
- When the word is complete, it is spoken and added to the list. The last 4 words stay visible under the board.
- Tap End Session to see the Session Complete summary, share it and save it to history.
Timing, worked out
Each letter takes 0.75 seconds. The word gets spoken 0.6 seconds after the last letter lands. Then a random wait kicks in before the next one starts: 7 to 18 seconds free, 4 to 10 with PRO. The session still ends itself after 3 minutes on the free plan, same as every other mode, or 5 minutes if you spend the one Watch Ad for +2 min you get.
| Word length | Example | Time until it is spoken |
|---|---|---|
| 3 letters | YES | 2.85 s |
| 5 letters | HELLO | 4.35 s |
| 7 letters | GOODBYE | 5.85 s |
The examples show only length: the app picks letters at random, so real words are rare and most outputs are letter strings you read into.
What the board does not do
- The planchette only spells letters. It does not stop on YES, NO, GOODBYE or the numbers.
- It does not respond to your question; the next word comes on its own timer.
- It is not the same as Letters mode: Ouija spells 3 to 7 capital letters and animates them, while Letters produces 2 to 12 lowercase letters as a list.
Keeping and sharing a session
Every word is saved as one output with its time. After End Session you can use Share as Image or Share to Stories for a card, or Copy Outputs to Clipboard for plain text. The session appears in Session History, where you can search it later. Free users see the latest 5 sessions there; older ones stay saved.
