Paranormal investigation log: journal and evidence report on your phone
Spirit Box splits the paranormal investigation log across two places. The Investigation Journal holds the place, your notes, tags, a 1 to 5 activity rating and linked sessions for each entry. Session History stores every completed session, output by output, with the time each one landed. PRO adds an Evidence Report per session that you can export as PDF.
Why keep a log
On its own, a session is just a list of words with timestamps. Next to a written log — where you were, who was there, what the room was actually doing — it starts to mean something, and the log also stops memory from quietly rewriting the night afterwards. A note like "at 01:20, one word, while a car passed" holds up far better than a recollection, a week later, that "we got a name".
Create a journal entry
- Open the home menu and tap Journal. The Investigation Journal opens.
- Tap New Entry.
- Fill in Title and Notes. Location (optional) is free text, such as a building and room; the app does not use GPS.
- Pick Tags: EVP, Apparition, Cold Spot, EMF, Voices, Knockings or Shadow, or type your own.
- Set the Activity Rating from 1 to 5.
- Under Linked Sessions, attach sessions from your history.
- Tap Save. The moon phase at the time is stored with the entry automatically.
The journal field names are shown in English in every language of the app. The free plan holds 3 entries, plus one more for each Watch Ad for +1 Entry; PRO is unlimited.
Use Session History as your raw data
Open History from the home menu. Session History lists completed Letters, Words, Numbers ITC, Sound Analysis and Ouija sessions. Use the search field (Search sessions, words, notes) and the mode chips to find a word or a night. Free users see the latest 5 sessions, and older ones stay saved; Unlock Full History or one Watch Ad opens the full list for a while.
Energy ITC, Ghost Box, Camera ITC and LiDAR Scan runs are not saved there. Note them in the journal instead; Ghost Box audio stays in its own Recordings list and Camera ITC videos go to Photos.
The Evidence Report, worked out
With PRO, Session Complete shows an Evidence Report with a score, a tier, findings and a Signal Timeline of the first 6 outputs. The score starts at 18 and adds points for length, outputs, sound peaks, repeats and words seen in earlier sessions, capped between 8% and 96%.
| Part | Detail | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Base | Every session | 18 |
| Length | 300 s (3 to 10 minutes) | 16 |
| Outputs | 8 words, 1.6 per minute | 24 |
| Sound | Average level 0.61, peak 0.75 | 18 |
| Repeats | "the" came twice | 5 |
| Seen before | "never" and "what" were in earlier sessions | 8 |
| Score | Tier: Strong Evidence | 89% |
A 3-minute Letters session with 6 outputs, no repeats and nothing seen before lands at 52%, Emerging Signal, for comparison. The whole gap between the two scores is length, sound and repetition — nothing was detected in either case. Compare your own sessions with it if you like, but it should not be treated as proof of a single thing.
| Score | Tier |
|---|---|
| under 35% | Baseline |
| 35-59% | Emerging Signal |
| 60-79% | Notable |
| 80% and above | Strong Evidence |
