RV Level: frequently asked questions
Short, honest answers about what the app does, what it does not do and where the numbers come from.
What does RV Level do in one sentence?
It converts the tilt of your phone into centimetres of block for each of the four wheels, and checks payload, axle load and hitch load against limits you type.
Do I need a special phone or sensor?
No extra hardware. It uses the motion sensor already in an iPhone or iPad. Without one, the Level tab shows No motion sensor.
How accurate is the wedge height?
It is trigonometry on the angle the sensor reports, using your wheelbase and track. It is only as good as how flat the phone lies and how well you pressed Zero. Check again with the bubble after each move.
Where should I put the phone?
Flat, screen up, on the floor, a step or the dashboard. If you hold it upright the app shows Lay the phone flat instead of numbers.
What does Zero do?
It saves the phone's current reading as the zero for the active vehicle, so a phone mounted slightly crooked reads level when the vehicle is. Press it on ground you know is level.
Can I use it in inches or pounds?
No. The app shows centimetres, metres and kilograms only.
How is a wedge height worked out?
The vehicle is four points on a rectangle of wheelbase by track. The app raises every wheel to the height of the highest one. For example 3.0° of roll on 3.5 m by 1.8 m gives 9.4 cm under each right wheel.
What do the bubble colours mean?
Green is under 1 cm of largest wedge, orange is 1 to under 4 cm, red is 4 cm or more. The Level badge appears when everything is at 0.5 cm or less for 1.2 seconds.
Does it work at night?
Yes. Night mode (red) in Settings, or the moon button on the Level tab, switches to a black and red screen.
Can it talk me through leveling?
Yes, if you switch on Voice guidance while leveling in Settings. It is off by default.
Is it really free, with no ads?
Yes. There is no ad component in the app, no account, and nothing is locked.
Does it use the internet or my location?
No to both. It works offline and never asks for your location.
Can I keep more than one vehicle?
Yes. Add as many as you like in Vehicle; each has its own sizes, weights, limits and Zero.
Does it save where I parked?
No. A saved spot has the name you typed, the date and the tilt summary. No coordinates are stored.
Does it tell me my axle weights?
No. You weigh the vehicle and type the axle loads; it compares them with your limits and shows how many kilos are over.
Can I take a payload report with me?
Yes. Share as PDF makes a one-page summary of payload, axle and hitch lines that you can send or print.
Does it replace a weighbridge or the vehicle handbook?
No. Take the limits from the plate and papers, and weigh on a certified scale. The app's own note says it is a guide.
Why does some text say Womo Ausrichten?
That was the app's first name. A few strings, such as the intro and the PDF footer, still use it.
