RV payload calculator: how many kilos you can still put on board
Remaining payload is the rated gross weight, minus the curb weight, minus everything you loaded. RV Level does that subtraction for you and turns red when the result goes negative.
What payload means here
Payload is the weight you are allowed to add to the empty vehicle before you reach its maximum. In the app: Remaining payload = Rated gross weight - Curb weight - Loaded. Water, gas, bikes and people all count.
Take the two vehicle numbers from your papers or a weighbridge ticket, not from a brochure. The app starts with sample values (3500 kg and 2800 kg) that are not yours.
Enter the numbers
- Open Vehicle, tap your vehicle and fill Curb weight and Rated gross weight under Weight.
- Tap Calculate payload & axle load.
- Under Payload type kilograms for Fresh water, Grey/black water, Gas, Bikes / bike rack and Passengers.
- Read Loaded and Remaining payload. If you went over, the second row reads Over by in red.
The five values stay with the vehicle, so you can leave the screen and come back to the same figures.
A worked example
| Row | Kilograms |
|---|---|
| Fresh water | 100 |
| Grey/black water | 20 |
| Gas | 11 |
| Bikes / bike rack | 40 |
| Passengers | 160 |
| Loaded | 331 |
| Remaining payload | 369 |
Same vehicle, but with 320 kg of passengers: Loaded is 491 kg and Remaining payload drops to 209 kg. Payload shrinks fast with people on board.
What the five rows do not cover
There is no row for fuel, a driver's tools, awnings, a tow-ball load or extra equipment. Add those into one of the rows, or into the curb weight, when they are not already part of it. The rows are in kilograms, so convert litres yourself.
Check what your papers count inside the curb weight (fuel, driver, a gas bottle). Anything already counted there should not go in again under Passengers or Gas, or the result will look worse than it is.
A habit that helps
Fill the rows with what you really carry on a normal trip, then check the result before the first long drive. If the second row is red, you decide what stays at home: the water tank is the usual lever, because you can fill it at the destination.
Try two figures for Fresh water, a full tank and a quarter tank, and see how much payload moves. Water is the one load you can change on the way.
Keep the paperwork with you
Share as PDF exports a one-page summary: vehicle name, date, curb and gross weight, loaded, remaining and each axle line. The PDF says it does not replace a certified scale, and it should not; it is a note for your own records or to show at a check.
