RV axle weight: compare what you weighed with what the plate allows
RV Level does not work out axle weight for you. You weigh the vehicle, type the front and rear axle loads, and the app tells you which one is over its limit and by how much.
The app warns when an axle is over, but only about numbers you give it. It never guesses how a load sits on the axles.
Where the numbers come from
- The limits: the vehicle plate and the papers show the allowed front axle load, rear axle load and hitch load. Type them under Axle load & hitch load in the vehicle (Front axle load, Rear axle load, Rated hitch load).
- The measurements: a weighbridge ticket or axle scale. The ticket should list the axles separately. The screen says the values should be from a scale and not estimated.
- It does not compare your weighed total with the rated gross weight. Check that against the plate yourself.
Check it
- Open Vehicle, tap your vehicle and put the plate limits in the three limit fields.
- Tap Calculate payload & axle load.
- Go to Measured values. Type Front axle load, Rear axle load and Hitch load in kg from your ticket.
- If one is above its limit, a red line appears: the axle name and the kilos over the allowed value.
Example
Front axle limit 1800 kg, rear 2000 kg. You weigh the front axle at 1850 kg and the rear at 1900 kg.
| Axle | Limit (kg) | Measured (kg) | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front | 1800 | 1850 | 50 kg over |
| Rear | 2000 | 1900 | within limit |
The comparison is plain: over means the load is higher than the limit, and the difference is what you remove or move. Only the red lines show up; an axle that is fine just gets no warning.
If an axle is over
Taking weight off is the fix, and moving it between axles may help. Heavy items behind the rear axle tend to take weight off the front, which is a general rule, not something the app measures. Weigh again after you change the load.
On a weighbridge with one platform, weigh the front axle alone, then the whole vehicle; the rear axle is the total minus the front. With 1850 kg on the front and 3750 kg in total, the rear is 1900 kg. Ask the operator for a ticket that lists every figure.
Weigh it loaded the way you travel
A reading from an empty van tells you little. Weigh with water, gas, bikes and people on board the way you really go, then type that. If you change the load later, change the measured values too: they are saved with the vehicle and do not update themselves from the payload screen.
The payload rows and the axle rows are separate. Putting 200 kg more into Passengers will not move the front or rear axle number; you have to weigh again.
Limits of this check
- It compares one measured value per axle. It is not a full towing-combination check.
- Default numbers in a new profile (1800 and 2000 kg) are placeholders. Replace them.
- The PDF lists each line as load / limit and OK or over.
