Construction site photo documentation with GPS-stamped photos
Running several sites at once only works if each photo stays tied to its job. Create one project per job site, shoot with the Construction template so every photo carries the project name, date and time, coordinates, address, altitude and accuracy, then caption and mark up the ones that matter. Everything stays grouped by site and pinned on a map.
Why jobsite photos need location and time
Progress photos settle disputes about what was built when. They show the state of a site before work starts, and back up change orders and snag lists. A photo that names the site, the corner and the day beats one lost in a camera roll of a thousand near-identical shots, every time.
Set up a project for each site
- Open Projects and tap the plus button to create a New Project.
- Enter a Name and pick Construction as Type, then tap Create. The type sets the default template: project name, date and time, coordinates, address, altitude and accuracy in an orange bar.
- Open the project and add Attributes as Field and Value pairs, for example Client, Job number, Contractor. They are printed under the title of the PDF report.
- Use Notes for context: type in Add a note… or record a quick Voice note on site.
Capture progress and issue photos
- On the Camera tab, check Save captures to shows the right site (it appears when you have more than one project).
- Wait for a small ± figure on the GPS badge, then shoot.
- Open the photo and write a Caption in Add an observation…, for example Level 2, east stair, formwork before pour.
- Tap Annotate to mark the issue: Arrow, Box, Circle, Line, Draw, Text or Dimension (a double arrow for labelling; it does not measure). Marks stay editable and are only burned into exports.
GeoProof also tags each capture on the device with up to four automatic Tags — crack, corrosion, pipe, vehicle, that kind of thing. They show up later in Search alongside captions, addresses and coordinates, which saves scrolling through a month of photos to find one shot.
A routine for construction progress photos
| When | What to shoot | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival | One wide shot from the same fixed point | Shows overall progress visit to visit |
| Walkthrough | Each area in the same order as last time | Makes before and after easy to compare |
| Issues | Wide shot, then close-up with a box or arrow | Context plus detail in the report |
| Before covering | Services, rebar, insulation, fixings | Evidence of work that will be hidden |
| Leaving | A note or voice note with the summary | Keeps the story with the photos |
See where every photo was taken
The Map tab pins each geotagged photo as a thumbnail; tap one to open it. Switch to Satellite or Hybrid to see it against the site. Waypoint drops a named pin at your position into the most recently updated project.
Share with the office
For one picture, open it and tap Export. For a whole visit, build a PDF from Export Report. With Pro, the office can also get a ZIP of every stamped photo, a spreadsheet or a .geoproof bundle they open in GeoProof.
Free or Pro for construction work?
The free version covers one site: one project and 20 camera captures per calendar month, with ads. If you run several jobs or shoot more, Pro gives unlimited projects and captures, your company name and logo on reports, and no watermark.
