How accurate is phone GPS for measuring land?
Each walked point lands within a few meters, usually. The GPS badge on the map shows the current accuracy as ±N m, and the panel adds a margin line below the result: on a 2.91-acre lot at ±5 m it reads ± 0.26 ac. As a rule: the smaller the plot, the worse walking looks next to its own margin. Trace small plots on satellite imagery instead.
Do I have to walk the boundary?
No. Tap the corners on the Satellite map and you can measure a parcel without ever setting foot on it. Walk Mode is for the opposite case: when you want the points to come from where you actually stood. The satellite map needs a data connection either way.
Can I use a LandMeasure measurement as a legal boundary?
No. Treat it as a solid working estimate for planning, quoting or sanity-checking a figure someone handed you, nothing more. For a sale contract, a dispute or a fence on the line, that is a surveyor's job, backed by the public land records. The PDF report prints the same warning.
Which units does LandMeasure give?
Areas in square meters, square feet, square yards, square kilometers, square miles, hectares and acres, and distances in meters, feet, kilometers, miles and yards. One area unit and one distance unit are shown at a time; change them in Settings > Units and every saved measurement is shown again in the new unit.
Can I send the result to a client?
Yes, with LandMeasure Pro. A project can be shared as a PDF Report with a map picture, totals and a table of every measurement, or as GPX, KML, GeoJSON or CSV files. Free users can unlock one file export (not the PDF) by watching a video from the Map tab's share button.
What is free and what does Pro add?
Free: measuring areas and distances, Walk Mode, all units and map styles, and saving projects, with one measurement per project, a small number of active projects, and ads. Pro adds Unlimited Measurements and projects, the Full Export Suite (GPX, KML, GeoJSON, CSV), PDF Reports and No Ads.
How much does LandMeasure Pro cost?
The App Store shows the price in your currency on the purchase screen, and it varies by country. There is a weekly and a yearly subscription and a one-time Lifetime purchase. A free trial is shown only if the store offers one to you.
Does LandMeasure work without internet?
Partly. GPS and the area maths work offline, so Walk Mode can record a boundary and give you its area in a field with no signal. The map imagery needs data and is not cached, so without it the map background stays blank.
Why does LandMeasure ask for my location?
To show where you are on the map, show the live GPS accuracy and record points in Walk Mode. It asks for While Using permission; the background part only runs while Walk Mode is recording, so the track does not break when the screen locks. If you refuse, tapping corners on the map still works.
Why does the area show a dash instead of a number?
Two things cause it: fewer than 3 points, or two sides crossing like a figure eight. In the second case the panel spells it out: The outline crosses itself, so the area cannot be calculated. Move or remove a point. Drag the corner that is out of order, or just undo it.
Can LandMeasure measure a roof?
It measures the footprint, the flat shape you'd see looking straight down. A pitched roof has more surface than that, and there is no pitch setting in the app, so that math is on you or your roofer.
Can I edit a measurement after I finish it?
No. Undo, dragging a corner, inserting a corner with a long-press and clearing all work only while the measurement is still open. Once you tap the green checkmark, delete it and measure again if something is off.
I walked a field and lost the track. What happened?
The walk is kept only if you tap the stop button before the green checkmark. Tapping the checkmark while Walk Mode is still recording discards the walked track. Stop first, then finish.
Why did Walk Mode record few or no points?
Walk Mode throws away any GPS fix worse than 10 m or older than 5 seconds. Under trees, next to tall buildings or indoors, the phone often cannot do better than that, so it skips. Wait in open sky until the badge shows green bars before you start walking.
Can I import a KML or GPX file, or type coordinates?
No. LandMeasure measures what you tap or walk; it has no file import, address search, coordinate entry or parcel data. It exports files but does not read them back.
Are my measurements backed up to iCloud?
No. Everything is stored only on the device, with no account and no server. Export the projects you care about if you need a copy.
Does LandMeasure show ads?
Yes, the free version does: a banner on the Projects list, and a full-screen ad after every third finished measurement. The Map screen itself stays clean, no banner there. Any LandMeasure Pro plan removes all of it.
Does it work on iPad or Apple Watch?
iPhone and iPad, iOS 17 or later, any orientation. No Apple Watch app, no widget, no Android version — don't go looking for them.
