How to Measure Driveway or Patio Square Footage With Your iPhone
Switch the map to Satellite and tap the corners of the driveway or patio — Area updates live in square feet, square meters or square yards. No tape measure, no walking across wet concrete, no asking a neighbor to hold the other end.
Why tap it on satellite instead of taping it
A driveway or patio is usually a plain rectangle or an L, sure, but a tape measure still means two people, a line you have to hold dead straight, and rounding to the nearest foot anyway. Tapping the corners on the satellite photo pulls the same shape straight off the imagery and leaves the geometry to the app.
Steps in LandMeasure
- Open the Map tab and pick Satellite or Hybrid so you can see the slab or paving clearly.
- Zoom in until the driveway or patio fills most of the screen; corners are easier to place accurately when they are large on screen.
- Tap Measure, then Measure Area. If no project is open yet, the New Project sheet appears first.
- Tap each corner of the paved area in order, following its edge. For an L-shaped driveway, tap every corner of the L, not just the four outer ones.
- Read Area and Perimeter live above the toolbar, then tap the green checkmark to save.
Worked example: a 3.5 m by 12 m driveway
A single-car driveway, 3.5 m wide and 12 m long, tapped as a plain rectangle, came out like this across the app's units:
| Unit | Area |
|---|---|
| Square Meters (m²) | 42 m² |
| Square Feet (ft²) | 452.1 ft² |
| Square Yards (yd²) | 50.23 yd² |
Perimeter came out at 31 m (101.7 ft), which is handy for pricing the edging too.
Patios and slabs work the same way
Same method, smaller patio, 4 m by 5 m:
| Unit | Area |
|---|---|
| Square Meters (m²) | 20 m² |
| Square Feet (ft²) | 215.3 ft² |
| Square Yards (yd²) | 23.92 yd² |
Tips
- Set your unit first in Settings > Units > Area, so Points, Area and Perimeter read in whatever you quote in.
- Curved edge on the driveway? Add more corners around it rather than cutting straight across — each extra tap tightens the trace.
- No subtraction here, so trace the paved surface itself, not the wider lot sitting around it.
- Two edges crossing on screen shows up as Area '—' instead of a wrong number. Move the last corner until it stops crossing itself.
