Why are my loyalty cards not showing on my Apple Watch?

A stale list on the Watch almost always means one thing: the iPhone has not sent the current cards over yet. Open StoreCard on the iPhone with the Watch nearby, give it a few seconds, and check that Show Favorites Only on the Watch is not quietly hiding the rest.

How cards actually get to the Watch

StoreCard on the iPhone sends the full card list to the Watch in the background every time a card is added, edited or deleted. The Watch keeps its own local copy — that is why it still works with no iPhone nearby, and also why it can quietly fall behind: what you see there is whatever it last received, not what is on the iPhone this second.

There is no manual pick-and-choose step for the Watch: you add and edit cards on the iPhone, and the whole list is copied over. If that copy is late, out of date or never arrived, the Watch and the iPhone disagree about what cards exist.

Worked example: spotting a stale Watch list

The Watch app's Settings screen has a Statistics section with Total Cards and Favorites. Comparing that number to the card count on the iPhone is the fastest way to tell a sync problem from an empty-list problem.

Checking for missing cards with the Statistics screen
WhereTotal Cards shown
iPhone (main card list)8
Watch Settings, Total Cards5
Missing on the Watch3

8 cards on the iPhone minus 5 on the Watch leaves 3 cards that never made it over — in this example the three most recently added ones, since the Watch is working from an older copy of the list. If Total Cards on the Watch matches the iPhone, the cards exist on the Watch and the real problem is Show Favorites Only hiding them instead (see below).

Fix it: force a fresh sync

  1. Open StoreCard on the iPhone and keep it in the foreground for a few seconds; it sends the current list to the Watch whenever a card changes, and also shortly after it is opened.
  2. Keep the Apple Watch on your wrist and within Bluetooth range of the iPhone, or on the same Wi-Fi network if you are away from the phone.
  3. Open StoreCard on the Watch and check Settings: Total Cards should now match the iPhone, and Last Sync should show a recent time instead of Not yet.

Still missing a card? Check these next

  • Show Favorites Only is on in the Watch's Settings, under Display: it hides every card that is not marked Favorite on the iPhone. If the Watch says No favorite cards, that setting is the cause, not a sync failure.
  • The card was deleted on the iPhone: the Watch removes a card as soon as it no longer appears in the iPhone's list, by design, so a card missing on both devices is working as intended.
  • The StoreCard Watch app is not installed: open the Watch app on the iPhone, scroll to StoreCard and install it from there.
  • Airplane Mode or Theater Mode on the Watch blocks the connection to the iPhone needed to receive the update.

What the Apple Watch app cannot do

  • It has no camera and no form: every card is added or edited on the iPhone, never on the Watch itself.
  • It cannot draw a Data Matrix code — if a card only has that format, the Watch shows the card but not a scannable symbol, the same as the iPhone.
  • It does not control which cards reach it beyond Show Favorites Only: there is no per-card picker on the Watch, unlike the Home Screen widget's 6-card pin list.
  • It needs at least one successful sync with the iPhone before it can show anything; a brand-new Watch install with the iPhone unreachable shows an empty list until they connect.

None of this needs Pro. I say that because it is the first thing people assume when something on the Watch does not work — the Watch app, its card list and the barcode it shows are free end to end. Pro only changes what the iPhone app and its widgets can do.

Questions and answers

Why are my cards not syncing to my Apple Watch at all?
The two devices have never completed a first sync, usually because the apps were never open with the iPhone in range. Open StoreCard on the iPhone with the Watch nearby and reachable; it sends the current list to the Watch automatically.
A card is not working on my Apple Watch — what should I check first?
Open the same card on the iPhone. If its barcode works there but not on the Watch, the Watch has an older copy; reopen StoreCard on the iPhone to send a fresh one. If it fails on the iPhone too, the card's number does not fit its barcode format, which is an app-wide problem, not a Watch one.
How do I add a loyalty card so it shows up on my Apple Watch?
Add it on the iPhone, with the Watch paired and nearby. StoreCard sends the updated list automatically; there is no separate add step on the Watch itself.
Does deleting the StoreCard Watch app delete my cards?
No. Cards live on the iPhone. Deleting and reinstalling the Watch app just clears its local copy, which then rebuilds itself from the iPhone on the next sync.
