Countdown

Can one countdown app track multiple events at once?

Yes: Countdown keeps up to 3 events running side by side on the free plan, each with its own live days, hours, minutes and seconds, and Pro removes the cap. Pin, favorite and archive sort them inside the app, but every widget shows the same event, the soonest one.

Three dates entered on a Friday morning, October 2, 2026, at 9:00 AM New York time: a flight, an exam and a wedding. Each one gets its own card on the home grid, and all three tick at once, seconds included.

The exam reads 1 h, not 0, because clocks fall back on November 1 and the app counts real elapsed time — easy to mistake for an error at a glance.

The flight also sat in the NEXT UP card at the top of the screen, since it was the nearest.

What happens when you add a fourth event?

With 3 events saved, tapping + opened the upgrade screen instead of New Countdown. Duplicate on a card is blocked the same way.

This is an easy ten-minute mistake to make. Archived events still count toward the 3, so archiving an event to free a slot does not work. + still asks for Pro. Only Delete gives the slot back.

The upgrade screen also offers Watch ad for 1 free event. Watching it opens the editor, but Save sends you back to the upgrade screen anyway. As of this version, don't count on that ad for a fourth event.

Pin, favorite or archive: which one helps with several countdowns?

  • Pin (long-press a card) moves the event to the top of the list and the grid. That is all it does: the NEXT UP card and the widgets ignore it.
  • Favorite only matters with the Favorites chip. With 3 events it adds little; with 20 on Pro it becomes the filter worth keeping.
  • Archive hides a finished event without deleting it, and Unarchive in the Archived chip brings it back. Good for a trip you want to look back at. It will not free a free-plan slot.
  • Search events, the field at the top, matches the title, the subtitle or the emoji.

The middle icon in the top bar switches to a list; the third one is a timeline grouped by month, which is the view that made the wedding feel far away and the exam close.

Can each widget show a different event?

No, which is the app's one real limitation here. A small widget for the wedding placed next to one for the flight will both show the flight. When you edit the widget there is an Event field, but it does not list your countdowns; typing the wedding's title there changes nothing.

Every widget shows the soonest event that is not archived. That includes one that has already passed: opening the app around 9 AM that Friday to check on the exam also refreshes the widgets, and from then on the Lock Screen read Completed for the flight.

The fix is to archive or delete the finished one. Archiving the flight around 8 PM that same evening switched the widget to the exam right away: editing or archiving an event pushes the widget an immediate refresh, no midnight wait needed. It read 23 days; the card inside the app said 23 days 13 h at that same moment, the widget just drops the hours.

Free vs Pro when you track several events

  • Free: 3 events in total, archived ones included, each with 1 reminder, the Large and Minimal display styles, and every widget size.
  • Pro: unlimited events, up to 8 reminders per event, 6 more display styles, and Every Year, Every Month or Every Week repeats.
  • Free has ads: a banner, an ad when you come back to the app, and one after every third time you close a full-screen countdown. Pro removes the last two.
  • Neither plan syncs: events live on one iPhone or iPad, with no account and no sharing.

Install it if your list is short and changes often: a trip, an exam, a birthday, then the next three. If you need a dozen dates on the free plan, or one widget per event on the same Home Screen, this app will annoy you.

Questions and answers

Is there a free countdown app for iPhone that handles more than one event?
Countdown is free to download and runs 3 events at once on the free plan, each with a live timer, a reminder and widgets. A fourth event needs Pro, and archived events still count toward the 3.
Can you add a countdown widget for each event?
You can add as many widgets as you like, but they all show the same event: the soonest one that is not archived. The widget's Event field does not let you pick a countdown from a list.
Is the free version free of ads?
No. The free plan shows a banner and full-screen ads at some moments, such as every third time you close a full-screen countdown. Any Pro purchase removes the full-screen ones.
Can I share my countdowns with other people?
No. There is no account, no iCloud sync and no share option for an event, so each person keeps their own list on their own device.
