Wedding countdown app for iPhone: days until you say I do

Set one up with the ceremony date: tap +, pick the Wedding category, enter the date, turn on Include Time and set the hour. From there the app counts down days, hours, minutes and seconds on its own, and a free widget keeps the number on your Home Screen or Lock Screen.

Why count down to the ceremony hour, not just the day?

A wedding happens at a time. Set the hour and the countdown ends when the ceremony actually starts — so on the morning of the day itself, you're looking at hours and minutes ticking down instead of a flat zero that sat there since you woke up.

How to set up a wedding countdown in the app

  1. Tap + on the Home screen to open New Countdown.
  2. Under Event, tap the Wedding category. It fills in a ring emoji; you can type a different one in Emoji.
  3. Enter a Title, for example Our wedding, and a Subtitle such as the venue.
  4. In Date & Time, pick the day, turn on Include Time and set the ceremony hour.
  5. Under Style, pick an Accent Color, a Background and a Display Style.
  6. Tap Save. Tap the event card any time to open it full screen.

Large gives you the emoji, the title and four boxes — days, hours, minutes, seconds. Minimal, one big day count, is the better pick for most people, since it's the one that actually reads from across a room when someone asks how long's left. A soft Gradient in your wedding colors sits fine with either.

If you do upgrade, Progress Ring is worth the switch — it fills in as the wait goes by, the share measured from the day you created the event to the ceremony itself.

Worked example: a June wedding

A ceremony on Saturday, June 12, 2027 at 3:30 PM, created in the app on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The app subtracts the two moments in seconds, keeps whole days, and truncates the rest into hours, minutes and seconds; the ring divides the time gone by the whole wait. New York time.

That January row reads 5 hours, not 6 — it looks like a bug but isn't: the app counts real elapsed time, and on January 1 the clocks sit on standard time while the wedding day is on daylight time, so an hour of wall-clock difference just isn't real time yet. It comes back in spring.

Put the wedding on your Lock Screen

Every widget's free. The rectangular Lock Screen one — ring emoji, title, days left — is a solid default, right there every time the phone gets picked up. One thing to watch: the widget shows your soonest event, so a bachelor party or dress fitting tracked separately will show up first until it passes or you archive it.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Leave Include Time off and the countdown still ends at some time on the date — just not the one you picked. Turn it on and set the hour yourself.
  • The free plan holds exactly 3 events, which is enough for a wedding, a honeymoon flight and a shower, no more.
  • One reminder on the free plan — 30 days is a solid pick for final-numbers panic; Pro gives you up to 8 per event.
  • After the day, it just shows Completed. It won't count how long you've been married, so don't expect an anniversary clock.

Questions and answers

Is there a free wedding countdown app with a widget?
Yes, free download, and the free plan covers the wedding countdown itself, the Large and Minimal styles and every widget size — with ads. Pro buys you more styles and backgrounds.
Can the countdown show hours and seconds to the ceremony?
Yes — Include Time on, hour set, and Large ticks days, hours, minutes and seconds every second while it's open.
Can I show how much of the engagement has gone by?
That needs Pro: Progress Ring and Progress Bar show the share of the wait that's over, counted from the day you created the event.
Does it count the years after the wedding?
No. The date passes, the event goes Completed, full stop — Countdown doesn't count up from anything.
