Exam countdown app for iPhone: how many days until your exam?
Create the exam as an event and the days, hours, minutes and seconds left just update on their own. A free widget keeps that number in view without opening the app, and turning the total days into a week-by-week study plan is one quick division — shown below.
Why a day count helps a study plan
A date sitting on a calendar is easy to ignore until it isn't. A number dropping by one every morning is harder to tune out, and since it's the same number you'd use to plan a revision timetable anyway, it's worth having somewhere you see it without unlocking the phone.
Set up the exam countdown
- Tap + on the Home screen to open New Countdown.
- Tap the School category for a book emoji, or type your own in Emoji.
- Type a Title, for example the subject name, and a Subtitle for the room or module code.
- Pick the exam date. Turn on Include Time and set the start time if you want the countdown to end exactly when the exam begins.
- Optionally turn on Reminders and pick an offset such as 7 days.
- Tap Save.
Worked example: turning the day count into a study plan
An exam on Monday, December 7, 2026 at 9:00 AM, New York time. Countdown subtracts the real seconds between now and then, keeps whole days, and truncates the rest into hours, minutes and seconds.
| You check on | The app shows | As a study plan |
|---|---|---|
| Mon, Oct 19, 2026, 3:00 PM | 48 days 18 h 0 min 0 s | 6 weeks and 6 days left |
| Mon, Nov 23, 2026, 9:00 AM | 14 days 0 h 0 min 0 s | 2 weeks left |
| Sun, Dec 6, 2026, 9:00 AM | 1 day 0 h 0 min 0 s | Exam is tomorrow |
No weeks view in the app itself, just total days — the division has to be done by hand. 48 days split into 7-day chunks is 6 full weeks with 6 left over, which is how a 6-week revision timetable ends up starting today rather than next Monday.
Put the exam date on your Lock Screen
Every size is free — small, medium, large on the Home Screen, circular, rectangular, inline on the Lock Screen. Pick any of them and the day count's there the moment you glance at your phone.
What's free and what needs Pro
One exam, one reminder, Large or Minimal, every widget — all free, with ads. Pro buys more reminders, more styles and backgrounds, no full-screen ads. For a single exam that's really all upside, not anything you're missing without it.
Common mistakes
- Entering the date without the start time. Skip Include Time and it still ends at some hour — just not the one your exam actually starts at.
- Expecting a weeks view that doesn't exist. Days, hours, minutes, seconds only — divide by 7 yourself.
- Setting a reminder in the past. An offset whose moment has already gone by does nothing, silently.
