Cigarette & Vape Counter

How to count vape puffs on your iPhone

Set Cigarette & Vape Counter to Vape and tap +1 after each puff. The Today card shows your puff count and, once you enter your e-liquid price, how much those puffs cost. It is manual counting: the app does not connect to your vape.

Why count puffs at all?

Vaping has no natural stopping point. A cigarette ends; a vape does not, so puffs spread across the whole day and are easy to underestimate. Counting them turns a vague habit into a number you can compare from one day to the next.

Does it read the puff counter on my vape?

No. Some devices show a puff count on their own screen, but the app does not pair with any vape, disposable or pod system, and it cannot read that number. You tap for each puff yourself. Forgetting a session will make the count look lower than it felt — that's the trade-off, but it works with any device, including the ones that show nothing at all.

How do you set up the puff counter?

  1. Go to Settings, Tracking Mode, and choose Vape. Choose Both if you also smoke cigarettes.
  2. Under Cost Settings, open Vape Costs and enter E-Liquid Price, Bottle Size and Puffs Per mL.
  3. On Home, tap +1 under Quick Add after each puff. Use +5 after a short session, or Custom for up to 99 at once.
  4. Watch the Today card: it shows the puff count and spent today.

What do your puffs cost? A worked example

The app divides the e-liquid price by the number of puffs in the bottle: bottle size in mL multiplied by puffs per mL. With 20.00 for a 10 mL bottle and 120 puffs per mL, the bottle holds 1,200 puffs.

Example: 20.00 per 10 mL bottle, 120 puffs per mL (USD)
What you logCost shownCalculation
Per Puff$0.0220.00 ÷ 1,200 = 0.0167, shown rounded
100 puffs in a day$1.67100 × 0.0167
250 puffs in a day$4.17250 × 0.0167
100 puffs a day for 30 days$50.00100 × 0.0167 × 30

The per-puff price is displayed with two decimals, but the app keeps the exact value, so daily totals are not distorted by rounding.

How many vape puffs a day is normal?

There is no reliable number to aim for, and the app does not tell you a safe amount. What it can do is show your own average. Open Stats, pick Vape in Both mode, and read Daily Avg, Best Day and Worst Day for the last 7 Days.

If you want the number to fall, a Reduction Plan for vape gives you a daily puff target that drops a little every day.

Mistakes that skew your numbers

  • Pick a rule and keep it: one inhale is one puff. Changing the rule halfway makes your averages meaningless.
  • Log little and often. Tapping +5 at the end of an evening from memory is a guess.
  • Your Puffs Per mL is an estimate. The app's own tip says most devices average 80 to 150. The vaping cost guide explains how to measure yours.
  • Counting puffs is not the same as measuring nicotine. The app does not track nicotine strength or mL used.
