Fit as questions and answers
Short, honest answers about what Fit as writes to Apple Health, how it estimates steps and where its limits are. Each answer stands on its own.
Do I need an account to use Fit as?
No. There is no email address or password to set up anywhere in the app. A PRO purchase, if you make one, is handled entirely by Apple's App Store payment sheet, so Fit as never sees or stores your payment details.
Does Fit as work offline?
Yes, logging needs no internet connection because Apple Health is stored on your device. In the free version, if the short ad cannot load because you are offline, the walk is logged anyway. Buying or restoring PRO and showing ads do need a connection.
Is Fit as free?
Yes, it is free to download and every logging feature works without paying: the only cost in the free version is a short ad before each Home tab log. PRO is an optional upgrade, sold as a subscription or a one-time purchase depending on what the App Store offers in your country, with a Restore button in the paywall for anyone who already bought it.
Where does the data go?
Into Apple Health on your iPhone or iPad, marked as coming from Fit as. Other apps can read it only if you have given them Health read permission for that data type. Fit as has no server and keeps no copy of your logs.
Will every app count the steps I log?
Not necessarily. Each app decides for itself whether to read data another app wrote into Apple Health, and some count only what their own sensors recorded or skip manually entered data. That choice belongs to the other app; Fit as cannot change it.
Can I log running and hiking, or only walking?
Both, but in different ways. On the Home tab, Walking, Running and Hiking only change the button label: what reaches Apple Health is steps and walking + running distance, not a run or a hike. To save a real Running or Hiking workout, use Log Workout in the Insights tab, which offers 11 workout types.
How soon does a log appear in Apple Health?
Right away: the app writes to Apple Health the moment you confirm, and the Today total on the Home tab refreshes. Other apps that read Apple Health update on their own schedule, so they may take a while longer.
How accurate is the step estimate?
It is an estimate: distance divided by a fixed stride of 0.762 m, the same for every person and for walking or running. 5 km always shows 6561 steps. Taller people and runners usually take fewer steps per kilometre, shorter walkers more, and the app does not adjust for that.
Can I change the stride length?
No. Settings shows Stride Length as 0.762 m / step for information only. If your real stride is very different, the estimated steps will be off by the same proportion.
Does Fit as support miles?
No, the app is kilometres only, with pace in min/km and speed in km/h. Convert first: 1 mile is 1.609 km, so a 3-mile walk is about 4.8 km.
Is adding steps by hand cheating?
Only if you type a walk you never did. Fit as is meant for activity that really happened but your phone missed; it writes exactly what you enter, labelled as coming from Fit as. Faking a walk just makes your own health data wrong, and nobody else is reading it.
Can I log a walk from yesterday?
Not from the Home tab, which always logs today and ends at the moment you tap. The Log Workout sheet in Insights lets you pick any past date and start time; enter a distance and choose Walking, Running, Treadmill or Hiking so it writes steps as well.
How do I delete a wrong entry?
Delete it in the Health app, from the list of recorded data for Steps (or for the workout). Fit as has no edit or delete button of its own.
Why does Fit as ask for Health permission?
Writing to Apple Health is the whole job, so write access is needed to save anything. Read access lets the app show today's total, your daily steps in Step List and your workouts in Insights. If write access is off, logging fails and the app offers a way to open Settings.
Does Fit as track me or sell my health data?
Your health data stays in Apple Health on your device and is not used for ads. The free version shows Google ads and asks for tracking permission to personalise them; if you say no, you still see ads, only not personalised.
Are my notes saved?
No. The Notes fields on the Home tab and in the Log Workout sheet are not saved anywhere, in the app or in Apple Health. Put anything important in the values themselves.
Does it work with Apple Watch?
No Apple Watch app, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What you log lands in Apple Health like any other data, but we make no promise about how the Watch or its activity rings treat steps entered by another app.
Can I export my logs?
Fit as has no export. Everything it writes is in Apple Health, so any export option you use there covers it.
