Logged steps not showing in Apple Health after a Fit as log: what to check
A green confirmation means the steps already landed in Apple Health; check the Today total or today's row in Step List. An error instead means Health write access is off, fixed from Settings. Missing only in another app means that app is choosing not to count data written elsewhere.
Step 1: did the log go through?
A successful log ends with a green line such as Walking logged — 6561 steps to Health, and the Today total at the top of Home refreshes right after. If that is what you saw, the data is in.
If you saw an alert instead, look at its title:
- HealthKit Error: Fit as does not have permission to write to Apple Health. Tap Open Settings in the alert, or go to Settings > Manage Health Access in the app.
- Save Error with Failed to save steps. Please try again.: the write did not complete. Try again; if it keeps failing, check the permission as above.
Step 2: turn Health write access back on
- In Fit as, open Settings and tap Manage Health Access. This opens the iOS Settings app.
- In iOS Settings, go to Privacy & Security > Health and open the Fit as entry.
- Turn on writing for steps and walking + running distance (and workouts, if you use Log Workout).
- Go back to Fit as and log the walk again.
Step 3: look in the right place
- Step List shows daily step totals from Apple Health for the last 30 days, including today's row in the free version. If today's number went up, the log is there.
- Home tab logs are steps and distance, not workouts, so they will never appear in Workout History or in the Insights cards. That is expected.
- Workouts saved with Log Workout do appear in Workout History; pull down to refresh the list.
- In the Health app, the entry sits under Steps with Fit as as its source, timed to end when you tapped Log.
Why don't my steps show in another app?
Apple Health holds the data, but every app decides what it reads. Some fitness, reward or game apps count only what their own sensors recorded, or skip samples marked as entered by hand. Some need their own Health read permission for steps. Fit as cannot change any of this.
Other apps also refresh on their own schedule. Writing to Health is instant; the other app may only catch up the next time it syncs.
The total looks higher or lower than expected
- The Today line and Step List show Apple Health totals from all sources: your phone, any watch, and Fit as. Health removes overlaps between sources by its own rules.
- Home tab logs are squeezed into today: a walk logged just after midnight cannot start yesterday, and a second log right after a first gets only the time left between them. The daily total is still the full amount.
- Logged the same walk twice? Delete the extra entry in the Health app; Fit as has no delete button.
