Added steps not showing in another app? A checklist for Apple Health

First confirm the steps are in Apple Health: under the controls PokeT-Walk prints "Written to Health at" and the time of the last save, and Open Health takes you there. If Health has them, the wait or the filter is on the other app's side: give it time, up to a day, and check which step sources it reads.

1. Are the steps in Apple Health at all?

After each log, a line under the controls on Home gives the time of the last successful write, and the "Today:" card shows Health's total for the day. Checking that line before logging again avoids writing the same walk twice. If a write fails, the app says so with an alert rather than staying silent; the usual cause is Health access switched off.

  1. In the app, open Settings, then Help, then It is not working. It shows whether the app can write to Health, with Open Settings if it cannot.
  2. Or in the Health app: tap your profile picture, then Apps, then PokeT-Walk, and turn on Steps and Walking + Running Distance.
  3. Log again, then check the new entry through Open Health.

2. Why are my steps not updating in the other app?

Apps that read Health refresh on their own schedule. The app's help screen says it plainly under 2. Give the other app time: it can take several hours, sometimes up to a day. Waiting beats logging again, because a second copy of the same walk counts twice once the other app catches up.

3. Does the other app accept steps from Health?

Some fitness apps have a setting for which device or source they count steps from. If it is set to the phone's built-in sensor only, everything written by other apps is ignored, this one included. Look in that app's settings for step or device options and choose the one that reads from the Health app. Nothing in PokeT-Walk can change that choice for you.

Why steps appear and then drop out of the total

For any stretch of time, Health counts one source toward the day's total. If your iPhone recorded steps in the same minutes, Health may prefer them over a manual entry. That is why the app ends entries left on now about 15 minutes in the past, while the phone is still publishing its latest counts, and never writes over its own earlier entries. In the Health app, the data sources list for Steps sets which source wins where two overlap: the one higher up counts.

Two settings that can help

  • Leave Keep a natural pace on (Settings, section Natural Pace). Steps go in as samples averaging 110 a minute or less, spread over the time window, instead of landing as one block that some apps treat as impossible.
  • Turn on Also save as a walk (Settings, section Walks). Each log is also saved as a walking workout, for apps that look at workouts rather than loose steps. It asks for one more Health permission; if you decline, steps still save.

Questions and answers

Why are my steps not showing in Apple Health?
Most often Health write access is off for the app. Tap It is not working in the Help section of PokeT-Walk's Settings to check, or turn on Steps and Walking + Running Distance for it in the Health app, then log again.
Should I log the steps again if the other app hasn't updated?
No. If Health shows the entry, the steps are there. Logging again would add them a second time once the other app refreshes.
Can PokeT-Walk make my fitness app count the steps?
No. It writes to Apple Health; each app decides which sources it accepts and when it reads them. Some only count their own device or the phone's sensor.
How long does it take for another app to see the steps?
It depends on that app. The app's own help mentions several hours, sometimes up to a day. Health itself has them right away.
