How to add a steps widget to your iPhone Home Screen or Lock Screen
Long-press an empty area of your Home Screen, tap the + in the corner, search for PokeT-Walk, pick a size and tap Add Widget. The widget, titled Steps added today, shows only the steps this app logged today, not your phone's full step total.
How do you add the widget?
- For the Home Screen: long-press an empty area until the icons jiggle, tap the + at the top, search for PokeT-Walk, choose the small or medium size, then tap Add Widget and place it.
- For the Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, pick the lock screen, tap the widget area under the clock, search for PokeT-Walk, and choose the circular, rectangular or inline style.
- Tap Done to save. The widget starts blank until you log your first walk of the day in the app.
What does the widget show?
The widget is titled Steps added today. It shows the steps PokeT-Walk itself wrote to Apple Health so far today, a ring against your daily step goal, and the time it last wrote to Health, the same as the write line on Home. Before your first log of the day it reads Nothing added yet, even if your iPhone has already counted steps elsewhere.
The ring is today's added steps divided by your goal, the same math as the Statistics ring, but not the same number: Statistics compares your full Apple Health total for the day, the widget compares only what this app added today. Add 6,500 steps against a 10,000 goal and the widget's ring reads 65%.
What the widget does not show
- Your iPhone's full step count for the day. It only counts what this app added, not steps from the phone's own motion sensor or from other apps.
- A live total that changes as you walk. It updates when the widget refreshes and after you log a walk in the app; it does not count steps in real time like a pedometer.
- Anything before iOS 16. Widgets need iOS 16 or later; the app itself runs from iOS 14, but without the widget on older versions.
Why the widget says "Nothing added yet"
It only counts entries this app wrote today, and it reads Nothing added yet until the first log of the day goes in. However many steps your iPhone itself has counted, the widget has nothing to show until you log one yourself; once you do, it updates on its next refresh.
