Passport photo size converter: reuse one photo for other countries
Dual citizens often need a US 2 × 2 inch photo (600 × 600 px) and a UK 35 × 45 mm one (413 × 531 px) from the same sitting. Passport Photo AI can reformat a photo you already took for a different country or document, with no new shoot — it just needs Pro and the original stored in History.
When converting saves you a photo shoot
Dual citizens, people applying for a visa and a passport at once, families moving abroad — they often need the same face in two or three formats. Converting reuses a photo that already worked instead of setting the lights and the wall up again for no real reason.
Why it re-processes the original instead of resizing
Stretching a square photo into a 35 × 45 mm rectangle distorts your face — that much is obvious once you try it. Less obvious: head height rules differ between countries too, so a straight resize would get the proportions wrong even without the stretch. The app instead keeps your original capture (scaled to 2,500 px on its longest side) and runs the full process again: face detection, background for the new spec, crop to the new head-height range, scale to the new pixel size.
| Target | Print size | Pixels at 300 DPI | Head height |
|---|---|---|---|
| US passport | 2 × 2 in | 600 × 600 | 25–35 mm |
| UK passport | 35 × 45 mm | 413 × 531 | 29–34 mm |
| Canada passport | 50 × 70 mm | 590 × 826 | 31–36 mm |
Two ways to convert in the app
- Right after exporting: on the export screen, tap Make this photo for another country, then pick the new country and document.
- Later: open History, swipe right on a saved photo and tap Convert, then pick the new country and document.
- The photo goes straight to processing, no camera needed. Read Photo Check for the new spec.
- Tap Use This Photo and export as usual.
Honest limits
- Converting is a Pro feature. Without Pro the app opens the upgrade screen.
- It needs the original capture. Photos saved before conversion existed only kept the cropped result; for those the app shows Re-take to convert, and you need a new photo.
- Converting into a US passport, US visa or Green Card photo uses your original background, not a replaced one, so the original wall must already be plain and light.
- The app does not compress to a target file size in KB. If a portal asks for, say, a maximum of 50 KB, check the file size before you upload.
