Will my photo definitely be accepted?
No app can promise that, and this one doesn't try. It measures what it can measure: size, head height and position, tilt, lighting, background brightness and resolution. The office or agency makes the final call, so check its current rules before you submit.
What does the score from 0 to 100 mean?
The score starts at 100 and loses points for each problem found: 20 for a critical head-size problem, 15 for a face too high or low, 20 for a photo that is too dark, and so on. 80 or more shows OK, 60 to 79 shows REVIEW, below 60 shows FAIL. Always read the Issues found list too, because a single critical issue can still leave you at 80.
Does it check glasses, smiling or hats?
No. The check does not inspect glasses, expression, closed eyes or head coverings. Before you shoot, Photo requirements lists the rules for your document, such as no glasses or a neutral expression, so you can get them right yourself.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Detection, background replacement, cropping and the check all run on your iPhone or iPad with Apple's own frameworks. There is no account, and saved photos live only in the app's storage on the device.
Is Passport Photo AI really free?
The core job is free: any country, any document in the database, the check, the crop and exporting single photos as JPEG, PNG or PDF with no limit. The free version shows ads. Pro removes ads and adds print sheets, PDF print sheets and converting a saved photo for another country.
Is single-photo export limited in the free version?
No. You can export as many single photos as you like in JPEG, PNG or PDF without Pro. What Pro adds is the print sheet with several copies per page, not the single export.
Why won't it change the background on my US passport photo?
Because the US Department of State rules from January 2026 reject AI-altered photos. For US passport, US visa and Green Card photos the app skips background replacement and only crops and resizes what you shot, so shoot against a plain white or off-white wall.
How many countries are supported?
55 countries, with 63 document specs in total. Most countries have a passport spec only; a few also have a visa, national ID, residence permit or Green Card spec. The document list for each country shows exactly what is there.
Can it make a driver's license photo?
There is no dedicated driver's license size in the database. If your licensing office asks for a photo in the same format as your country's passport photo, choose the Passport spec; otherwise follow the office's own instructions.
Why does it ask for tracking permission?
Only to show personalized ads in the free version. If you say no, the app still works and requests non-personalized ads; Pro users see no ads at all.
Why does it need the camera and Photos?
The camera takes the photo with the live face oval. Photos access is add-only: it lets the app save the finished photo to your library, not read your other pictures. Import uses the system photo picker, where you choose one image.
Can someone else take the photo?
Yes, and this route beats a selfie when it is an option. The built-in camera uses the front camera, but you can have someone shoot it with the main camera and bring the result in with Import. Some authorities prefer a photo taken by another person anyway.
What happens if two people are in the picture?
The app stops and asks for one person only. It also stops if it cannot find a face at all, usually because the photo is too dark.
What file will I get?
A JPEG, PNG or PDF at the exact pixel size of the document, with the resolution (300 DPI, usually) written into the file so it prints at the right physical size. The export opens the iOS share sheet, so the file can go straight to a print shop from there instead of being saved first.
Where are my saved photos?
In the History tab, with the country, document and score. You can search, mark a Favorite, Delete or reopen a photo to export it again. Nothing syncs to other devices.
How do I restore Pro on a new device?
Open Settings and tap Restore Purchases. The app checks your App Store purchases and turns Pro back on if it finds one. Manage Subscription opens Apple's subscription screen.
Does it work on Android, Mac or Apple Watch?
No. Passport Photo AI is for iPhone and iPad only.
