How to make a birthday photo collage

Open Templates, tap Birthday, choose a layout like Party Grid, Make a Wish or Celebration Nine. Fill it with party photos, add "Happy Birthday" with Text, export. Every birthday layout is free, no watermark — the same as the rest of the app.

Why use a birthday-themed layout instead of a plain grid?

A plain grid just holds the photos. A birthday layout is shaped for the day itself — Make a Wish groups three photos around the cake, Six Candles fits six shots at one per candle, Party Scrapbook scatters them like a keepsake page. The collage says "birthday" before you've typed a single word.

A crown badge on a few cards is purely decorative — every layout in Birthday opens, edits and exports free, no exceptions.

How to make a birthday collage, step by step

  1. Open Templates and tap Birthday in the category row.
  2. Pick a layout for your photo count: Birthday Duo for 2, Make a Wish for 3, Party Grid for 4, Six Candles for 6, Celebration Nine for 9.
  3. Tap the photo-plus icon and pick the photos: candles being blown out, presents, the group, the cake.
  4. Tap AI Crop to keep faces centred in each slot, or drag and pinch a slot by hand.
  5. Tap Stickers for a balloon, confetti or cake emoji, and Text for "Happy Birthday" or the age.
  6. Tap BG for a bright colour or pattern behind the gaps; Filter can give every photo a matching warm look.
  7. Tap the share icon, choose Quality, and tap Save to Photos.

Which layout fits which party?

  • A quick two-photo memory: Birthday Duo.
  • The classic cake moment: Make a Wish (3 photos), or Cake Cut (3, wide shape for a shot across the table).
  • A full photo dump of the day: Party Grid (4) or Celebration Nine (9) if there are more shots worth keeping.
  • A milestone age, one candle per photo: Six Candles fits exactly 6.
  • A keepsake page with a scattered look: Party Scrapbook, which pairs naturally with Stickers.

Where this trips people up

  • Picking Celebration Nine for 3 or 4 photos. The extra slots sit empty until filled, so go smaller or find more photos first.
  • Writing long text onto a small layout. Keep it short — "Happy Birthday!" plus an age — so it doesn't cover the photos underneath.
  • Skipping Quality before saving. 2K has noticeably more detail if the collage is going to print, or become a poster.

Questions and answers

Are the birthday collage layouts free?
Yes, crown badge or not — every layout in Birthday opens and exports free, no watermark on any of them.
Can I add the birthday person's age or name?
Yes. Type any caption with Text, age or name included, and drag it onto the layout; Stickers adds small party graphics on top.
How many photos fit in a birthday collage?
2 to 9 within the Birthday category — Birthday Duo at the low end, Celebration Nine at the top. For more from the same party, the Carousel tab holds up to 10 slides instead.
Can I make a birthday collage without internet?
Yes, building and exporting works fully offline. Only ads and the purchase list need a connection at all.
