How to print a photo collage at the right size
Open Export, tap Quality, and under Print Size pick a paper size from 4×6 Photo to Poster 18×24. It renders at exactly that size at 300dpi, centred on white, ready to send straight to a print shop. Print sizes need Pro.
Can you print a collage made on iPhone?
Yes, though a screen-sized export sent to a print shop tends to come back soft. A collage made for Instagram is sized for a screen, not paper — the shop either stretches it blurry or crops it to fit. Print Size skips that guesswork entirely: it renders straight at the paper's own pixel size, at 300dpi, which is the number every print shop actually asks for.
How to export a collage for printing, step by step
- Build the collage as usual: pick a layout in Templates, fill the slots, and adjust spacing, borders and background.
- Tap the share icon to open Export.
- Tap Quality, then open Print Size and choose 4×6 Photo, 5×7 Photo, 8×10 Photo, A4 Paper, A3 Paper or Poster 18×24.
- Leave Format on JPEG, which every print shop accepts.
- Tap Save to Photos, then upload that file to a print shop or a home printer set to the matching paper size.
What pixel size is each paper option?
300dpi across the board, the standard figure for a photo print. Here's exactly what the app saves for each one:
| Paper | Pixel size | Inches |
|---|---|---|
| 4×6 Photo | 1,800 x 1,200 px | 6 x 4 in |
| 5×7 Photo | 2,100 x 1,500 px | 7 x 5 in |
| 8×10 Photo | 3,000 x 2,400 px | 10 x 8 in |
| A4 Paper | 2,480 x 3,508 px | 8.27 x 11.69 in |
| A3 Paper | 3,508 x 4,961 px | 11.69 x 16.54 in |
| Poster 18×24 | 5,400 x 7,200 px | 18 x 24 in |
Why does my collage have white borders on the printed page?
Because paper has its own shape too — a 4×6 photo is wider than it is tall, A4 is taller than it is wide — and your collage layout almost never matches it exactly. The app fits the whole collage inside the paper without cropping anything, and fills what's left with white, the same look a printed card gets.
Two examples, worked out the same way the app does it:
| Collage shape | Paper | Collage printed at | White border |
|---|---|---|---|
| Square (1:1) | A4 Paper (2,480 x 3,508 px) | 2,480 x 2,480 px | 514 px top and bottom |
| Wide 3:2 (e.g. Postcard) | 8×10 Photo (3,000 x 2,400 px) | 3,000 x 2,000 px | 200 px top and bottom |
Where this trips people up
- Exporting at HD or 2K and expecting a sharp poster. Those sizes were made for screens; Print Size is for anything bigger than a small print.
- Picking PNG for printing, when JPEG is plenty for a print shop and uploads faster.
- Assuming a print size crops to fill the page — it never does. It adds white space instead, so nothing placed in the collage ever gets cut off.
