How to put a loyalty card barcode on your iPhone Home Screen
Open the card in StoreCard and tap Add to Widget. Then long-press the Home Screen, add the StoreCard widget and pick that card. Two taps in the app, one hold-and-add on the Home Screen. The small widget is free; medium and large need Pro.
Why use a barcode widget?
At a busy till, unlocking the phone, finding the app and scrolling to the right card takes longer than it should — easily ten seconds, with someone waiting behind you. A widget puts one card's barcode straight on the Home Screen, which is exactly what the shop you visit every day deserves.
How do I add a loyalty card to the widget?
It is two steps: first you pin the card inside StoreCard, then you add the widget and choose which pinned card it shows.
- In StoreCard, open the card you want and tap Add to Widget. The button changes to Remove from Widget, with a tick.
- Go to the Home Screen and long-press an empty area until the icons jiggle.
- Tap the add button in the top corner, search for Store-Card and choose the StoreCard widget.
- Pick the small size (free) or, with Pro, the medium or large size, and add it.
- Long-press the new widget, choose to edit it, and under Card pick the card to show. The list offers the cards you pinned.
If the widget says No Card Selected, it has not been given a card yet: edit it and choose one. Settings in the app has the same short guide under Add Store-Card Widget.
Which widget sizes are free?
| Widget size | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Small | shows the chosen card | shows the chosen card |
| Medium | Pro placeholder | shows the chosen card |
| Large | Pro placeholder | shows the chosen card |
If you add a medium or large widget without Pro, it shows Pro Feature with the line "Upgrade to Pro to unlock this widget size." rather than a card. The small widget has no such limit.
How many cards can I pin to the widget?
Up to 6. When you tap Add to Widget on a seventh card, the card you pinned first is dropped from the list to make room. Pinning only decides which cards the widget offers you; each widget on the Home Screen still shows one card, the one you chose when editing it.
| Pinned cards before | You pin | Pinned cards after |
|---|---|---|
| A, B, C, D, E, F (A pinned first) | G | B, C, D, E, F, G |
Common mistakes
- Trying to pick a card in the widget editor before pinning it in the app. The editor only offers pinned cards, so Add to Widget has to come first, or the picker shows nothing to choose from.
- Expecting the medium or large widget to work on the free version. Only the small one does.
- Removing a card from the pinned list and wondering why a widget still shows it: a widget keeps the card it was given until you edit it again.
- Relying on a Data Matrix card here. The app cannot draw that format anywhere, including in a widget.
