How to watermark a PDF on iPhone
Turn on Add Watermark inside Batch Print, type your text, pick Header, Center or Footer, then print the file or tap Export Combined PDF to save a watermarked copy without printing anything. Works fine with just one PDF in the batch, too.
Where watermarking lives in the app
Printer App buries the watermark inside Batch Print (Pro) — there's no standalone watermark button anywhere. That's not actually a problem for marking a single file: just add one PDF to the batch and turn the watermark on for it.
How to watermark a PDF, step by step
- Open Printer App and tap Batch Print on the Home tab.
- Tap Pick New Files and add the PDF (or PDFs) you want to mark.
- Under Print Settings, turn on Add Watermark.
- Type the text in Watermark Text, for example "CONFIDENTIAL" or "Copy".
- Choose Placement: Header, Center or Footer.
- Tap Export Combined PDF to save a watermarked PDF without printing, or Start Batch Print to print it straight away.
Want every batch to start with the same watermark already on? Set Watermark, Watermark Text and Placement once under Printing Defaults in Settings. Those defaults only touch Batch Print, never a single print from Print Document.
What the watermark looks like
It's small, light grey text — 12 pt, 25% grey — repeated at whichever position you picked, on every page. Not a bold diagonal stamp across the page. It's meant to mark a copy, not block anyone from reading it.
Worked example: marking a 3-page lease agreement
Add the lease PDF (3 pages) to the batch on its own, turn on Add Watermark with "Copy" at Footer, leave copies at 1. The watermark doesn't change the page count, so the estimate matches printing it without one:
| Est Pages | Est Sheets | Est Time | Est Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | 3 | ~1m | 0.30 |
What this can't do
- Needs Pro, since it only lives inside Batch Print.
- Only works inside Batch Print — there's no watermark option on a single print from Print Document.
- Skip blank pages (PDF) and watermarking both only kick in on a PDF that has a page range or the watermark actually set.
