Boxing Timer

Heavy bag workout timer that calls out punch numbers 1-6

Combo Caller stops you freestyling the same three combos for an entire round. Turn it on (Setup > Voice Coach, part of Pro) and a voice calls random numbered combos like 1 2 3 or 1 2 5 2 while the round runs. At Medium pace a 3-minute round gets 23 calls — plenty to keep you punching instead of watching the phone.

What are the boxing punch numbers 1-6?

Coaches call combinations by number so they can be shouted in a second. The app uses the common six-number system for an orthodox stance; a southpaw throws the same numbers from the other side.

Punch numbers used by the Combo Caller
NumberPunch
1Jab (lead straight)
2Cross (rear straight)
3Lead hook
4Rear hook
5Lead uppercut
6Rear uppercut

The app picks at random from 16 combinations of one to four punches, such as 1, 1 2, 2 3, 1 1 2, 1 2 3, 1 4 3, 1 6 3, 1 2 1 2, 1 2 5 2 and 6 3 2. It speaks only the digits, read by your phone's voice in the device language.

How to set up the combo caller

  1. Tap the list icon at the top left for Setup.
  2. Choose a round format, for example Bag Work 2×2 (six 2-minute rounds with 30 seconds of rest) or Sparring 3×3 under the Boxing chip.
  3. Scroll to Voice Coach. Tap Preview to hear a sample combo; this works in the free version.
  4. With Pro, turn on Combo Caller and pick a Pace: Easy, Medium or Hard.
  5. Keep Announce Rounds on if you also want the round number, Last round, Rest, a 3-2-1 at the end of each rest and Workout complete spoken.
  6. Close the sheet, tap Play and work the bag. Combos stop during the rest.

How many combos per round?

The first combo comes about 2.5 seconds after the bell, then one every 12 seconds on Easy, 8 on Medium and 5 on Hard, until the round ends.

Combo calls per round by pace
Round lengthEasy (12 s)Medium (8 s)Hard (5 s)
2:00101524
3:00152336
5:00253860

Start on Easy until each combo lands clean, then move up through Medium before trying Hard. On Hard you barely finish one combo before the next is called, and that gap-free pressure is exactly the point for conditioning rounds.

Tips for boxing combinations on the heavy bag

  • Return your hands to your guard after every combo; the gap before the next call is your reset.
  • Move between calls: circle the bag, step in and out, so you are not planted.
  • Combine it with the 10-second clacker: when it sounds, throw nonstop until the bell.
  • Music keeps playing under the calls and the bell; keep the phone volume high enough to hear the numbers.

What the combo caller doesn't do

  • It only calls punch numbers 1 to 6: no body-shot variations, defensive moves, kicks or knees.
  • It is random: you can't write your own combo list.
  • It needs Pro. Without Pro the bell, the clacker and every round preset still work.

Questions and answers

Is the combo caller free?
No. Combo Caller and Announce Rounds are part of Pro. Preview, which speaks one sample combo, is free.
Does it call the punch names or just numbers?
Just numbers — 1 2 3, not "jab cross hook." That's how coaches actually call it ringside, and it means the phone's own voice can read the digits in whatever language your device is set to.
Can I use it with a 3 minute boxing timer?
Yes. It works with any preset or custom timer. On a 3:00 round you get 15, 23 or 36 calls depending on the pace.
