Muay Thai round timer and kickboxing timer for iPhone

The 2-minute rest in Muay Thai surprises boxers expecting the usual one minute. Muay Thai 5×3 runs 5 rounds of 3:00 with 2:00 of rest, 23:10 total. For kickboxing, pick KB Pro, KB Amateur or K-1 Format; each rings a bell at every change and clacks 10 seconds before the round ends.

How long are Muay Thai rounds?

Commonly 5 rounds of 3 minutes, with a 2-minute rest — noticeably longer than the usual 1-minute boxing break. Many amateur and modern events use different lengths though, so check your own event's rules before copying any of this for a fight.

How long are kickboxing rounds?

Kickboxing formats vary with the rules and level; 2- or 3-minute rounds with a 1-minute rest are common. The app has three kickboxing formats and three Muay Thai formats.

How to set the timer for Muay Thai or kickboxing

  1. Tap the list icon at the top left for Setup.
  2. Tap the Muay Thai chip or the Kickboxing chip and choose a preset. It gets a checkmark.
  3. Optional: under Bell Sound, tap Gong for a deeper sound (Pro) or keep the free Classic Bell.
  4. Close the sheet, check the ROUND and REST cards and tap Play.
  5. Train through the green round; the clacker at 0:10 is your last push. Rest while the ring is blue.
  6. The workout ends after the last round with DONE and a bell, and is saved to History.

Pad work, clinch and interval sessions

MT Pad Work fits a holder-and-striker session well: six 2-minute rounds with a minute to swap roles or just catch your breath. MT Clinch is four 2-minute rounds, which also works for clinch drilling or a shorter shoulder-tap sparring game when full rounds aren't needed. Want your own numbers? Custom Timer handles it — 3:00 rounds with 1:00 rest instead of 2:00, say, or 1:35 rounds with 0:45 rest, which comes to 11:05 over 5 rounds with a 10-second prep.

Tips and common mistakes

  • The 2-minute rest in Muay Thai 5×3 is fixed. If you want 1 minute, build 5 x 3:00 / 1:00 in Custom Timer (19:10, the same as KB Pro).
  • The bell plays over music and with the silent switch on, so the gym's playlist can keep going.
  • An iPad works in any orientation, which helps if it sits on a shelf or a bench.
  • Durations in Custom Timer move in 5-second steps; round length goes from 10 s up to 30:00.

Questions and answers

Is the Gong bell free?
No, it's locked behind Pro along with Air Horn. The free Classic Bell's triple ring works fine for everyday use, and it works with every preset the same way.
Can I do 3-minute rounds with 1-minute rest for Muay Thai?
Yes: use KB Pro (5 x 3:00 / 1:00) or K-1 Format (3 rounds), or build it in Custom Timer with any number of rounds.
Does it call out kicks or knees?
No. The Pro combo caller only speaks punch numbers 1 to 6. For Muay Thai it is a round timer with bell and warning, not a pad-work caller.
