EMOM and AMRAP timer on iPhone
EMOM 1 min runs 20 rounds that start exactly one minute apart, 20:00 total. AMRAP 20 min is one 20-minute round with a warning at 1:00 left. Both sit under the CrossFit chip in Setup, and Custom Timer builds any other length.
How the EMOM timer works
Every minute on the minute: you start a set at the top of each minute and rest for whatever's left over. Under the hood the app builds this as 55-second rounds plus 5-second rests, so a bell starts each new minute and a second bell rings 5 seconds before it as a heads-up — the clacker, with a 5-second warning, lands at 0:50 into each minute.
| Part | Calculation | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Prep | once | 0:05 |
| Rounds | 20 x 0:55 | 18:20 |
| Rests | 19 x 0:05 (none after round 20) | 1:35 |
| Total | 20:00 |
Because the last minute has no rest, the 5-second prep fills the gap and the whole EMOM is exactly 20:00, with each round starting 60 seconds after the previous one.
How to run an EMOM or AMRAP
- Tap the list icon at the top left for Setup, then the CrossFit chip.
- Choose EMOM 1 min, AMRAP 20 min or CF Intervals (10 x 1:00 on / 0:30 off). Close the sheet.
- Set up your equipment, then tap Play. The prep countdown gives you a few seconds to get in position.
- EMOM: start your set at each bell. AMRAP: keep cycling your movements until the final bell; the clacker at 1:00 left tells you to go for one more round.
- The workout ends with DONE and is saved to History.
AMRAP timer: 20 minutes or any length
AMRAP 20 min is one 20:00 round with a 10-second prep (20:10 in total) and a warning with 60 seconds left. For a different AMRAP, open Custom Timer, set Rounds to 1 and Round to the length you want, up to 30:00. A 12-minute AMRAP with a 10-second prep lasts 12:10. In a custom timer the warning can be up to 30 seconds.
EMOM timer for 10 minutes or other lengths
Copy the preset's trick in Custom Timer: Round 0:55, Rest 0:05, Prep 0:05, and Rounds equal to the number of minutes. Ten rounds give an EMOM of exactly 10:00. For an every-2-minutes format, use 1:55 rounds with 0:05 rest.
| Timer | Setup | Total |
|---|---|---|
| EMOM 1 min (built-in) | 20 x 0:55 / 0:05, prep 5 s | 20:00 |
| EMOM 10 min (custom) | 10 x 0:55 / 0:05, prep 5 s | 10:00 |
| AMRAP 20 min (built-in) | 1 x 20:00, prep 10 s | 20:10 |
| AMRAP 12 min (custom) | 1 x 12:00, prep 10 s | 12:10 |
What it doesn't do
- No rep counter or tally of AMRAP rounds done: keep score on a whiteboard.
- No for-time stopwatch that counts up; every phase counts down.
- No multi-part workouts (for example an EMOM followed by an AMRAP) in one timer: run them one after the other.
