Does Step As count my steps by itself?
No, and it does not try to. Your iPhone and watch already count the steps they are carried for. Step As is for the walk they missed: you pick the number and it is written to Apple Health.
Where do the logged steps end up?
In Apple Health, as a step entry plus a walking + running distance entry, with Step As as the source. Apps that read steps from Health can see them. They are not workouts and add no active energy, so they do not fill the Move or Exercise rings on an Apple Watch.
Will my logged steps clash with what my iPhone already recorded?
They can, if the phone was also counting during the same minutes. Step As cannot place a walk at a time you choose: every log ends at the moment you tap, and it never overlaps its own earlier logs that day. So log soon after the walk the phone missed, and if the phone did record part of it, log only the difference; Health may merge overlapping minutes from different sources.
Why did today's total go up by less than I logged?
The ring shows Apple Health's total for today from every source. When your phone or watch recorded steps in the same minutes as the log, Health merges the overlap, so the combined total can rise by less than the number you picked.
Does Step As need internet or an account?
It needs no account, and there is no server of ours. Logging works offline because writing to Health happens on the device. The free version loads Google AdMob ads over the internet, and buying or restoring PRO needs the App Store.
Can I see a list of what I have logged?
No. The History tab shows a This Week bar chart and a 30-day Streak Calendar built from your whole daily total in Apple Health, so you cannot pick out single entries or spot a double log in the app. To check or delete an entry, open Steps in the Health app and look at the recorded data, where each entry shows its source.
Is Step As a way to fake my step count?
It is meant for activity you actually did: the treadmill session, the walk to the shops, the hike with the phone left in the car. Technically it writes whatever number you pick, but invented steps make your own numbers, goals and trends meaningless, and challenges or insurers may not accept manual entries.
Why does 7,300 show up as 7,333 steps?
The app turns your number into whole minutes of walking at a fixed internal pace, then writes the steps for those minutes. 7,300 becomes 88 minutes, which is 7,333.33 steps. Multiples of 500 come out exact; the other 160 values on the wheel land slightly above or below.
Can I add steps to yesterday or a past day?
Not with Step As. Every log ends at the moment you tap and never starts before midnight. The Health app's own Add Data option on the Steps page lets you enter a value with a date and time if you need to fill an earlier day.
What is the most I can log at once?
20,000 steps, the top of the Custom Amount wheel, written as a 240-minute walk. For a longer day, log it in several parts; the app places each new log right after the previous one without overlapping.
How much distance does a log add to Health?
One metre per step: 5,000 steps add 5 km of walking + running distance. Most people's stride is shorter than that, so the Health distance for a logged walk usually reads high. There is no setting to change it.
Is there a daily limit on free logs?
No. The Limit Reached alert shows on every free log and asks you to watch one short video. After the video grants its reward the steps are written. If you close the video early, nothing is logged; if no video is available, the log goes through without one.
Is PRO a subscription?
You choose: Monthly is an auto-renewing subscription and Lifetime is a one-time payment. Both remove all ads and the video before each log. Restore it with Restore Purchases, and cancel the monthly plan with Manage Subscription in Settings.
Does it read or upload my health data?
It reads only your daily step totals, to draw the ring, streak, chart and calendar. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account. Ads come from Google AdMob and never use your Health data.
Why does it ask for tracking permission?
The prompt decides whether ads may be personalised. If you allow it, ads can be tailored; if you deny it, you still see ads, but non-personalised ones. Logging works the same either way.
Why do some screens show English in my language?
The main tabs are translated into many languages, but several newer screens, such as Quick Log, Custom Amount, the Streak Calendar and most of Settings, are still in English everywhere.
Does the Dark Mode switch stay on?
Only while the app is open. At the next launch Step As follows the system appearance again until you flip Dark Mode once more. In the free version, flipping it shows an ad.
Does it work on Apple Watch or Android?
Not on Apple Watch: there is no Watch app and no widgets. On Android, yes: Step As is on Google Play as a separate app, and its features may differ from the iPhone version described here.
